ds1 (12) is in a cooking comp next week held at school.

he has to make a 2 course meal , a main and a dessert.

he only has 1 hour 30 mins to do it.

he does help me in the kitchen but has never cooked a meal alone before.

i am thinking pasta and salmon but not sure.

how could he do this simply and quickly but make it look impressive?

oh and he only ha a fiver to spend on ingredients!

please help if you can!

Try Martha Stewart Everyday food website would be perfect for this

stirfry veg - broccolli, mange tout, babycorn, spring onions at same time cook pasta.

add strips of smoked salmon to veg and briefly fry.

tip pasta into veg, add double cream, and bubble briefly to thicken

sereve with green salad

this is one of my fav quick but 'nice' meals.

could try with low fat creme fraiche or similar to reduce fat if a healthier meal is needed

Blimey, they're not asking much are they? He's got an hour and half, to do something with a fivers worth of ingredients?

The BBCfood website, it quite good and the Sainsburys one too. You can put in various main ingredients and it finds recipes for you.

Good luck!

i know!

they also say it should be healthy and they are looking for a range of skills, presentation etc even suggested posh table cloths and flowers.

he's 12 fgs!

it's something to do with the rotary club, so i reckon they're just after a free meal!

PandaG's idea is great - he could use ham, or even tinned tuna, instead of smoked salmon to keep the cost down.

Delia has a 5 min recipe for coffee fudge bananas in the comic relief book she did a few years ago:

To serve 4 -

2 ripe bananas
500g greek yogurt
150g unrefined molasses sugar
2 level teaspoons instant coffee powder.

Slice bananas into thin rounds
Place them in large bowl, add yog and mix.
Divide mixture between 4 serving bowls.
Mix sugar and coffee, then sprinkle over top.
Just found the stumbling block - cover with clingfilm and leave in fridge for 3 hours!
Sugar and coffee will combine to make fudge sauce.

Might be worth experimenting at home to see if the sauce works quicker, if he did the dessert first.

Or how about mixing greek yog, with resbaerries and sprinkle crushed merangue (spL)on top.

Yummy chicken recipe which you could adapt for salmon - coat meat/fish in olive oil and put in a hob-proof oven dish with cherry tomatoes, onions, courgettes, peppers - whatever veg you fancy that can be roasted really!
Stick it in the oven til cooked - about 45 mins for chicken, probably less for salmon.
Remove the meat or fish to a warmed plate, then tip a tub of creme fraiche into the dish and heat through on the hob to make a yummy sauce.
Good with new potatoes, noodles or whatever and very easy and healthy.

Rubbish at puddings though
