I’m trying to pull myself out of a cooking rut. Recommend a recipe, a website or a cookbook. All styles welcome

A really easy one....

Garlicky prawns with Orzo

Blend a handful of basil leaves with a large knob of butter and two large cloves of garlic. Add half this herb butter to 650ml of vegetable stock and 300 g of Orzo pasta and put in an oven proof dish. Chop 250g cherry tomatoes and place on top. Bake for 20 minutes at 200°C or until stock is soaked up by the Orzo.
Whilst this is cooking, steam some green beans / broccoli etc. Then heat the rest of the herb butter in a pan, throw in some prawns and cook for 4-5 minutes.
Plonk your Orzo in a plate, top with prawns and veggies and open the wine... bliss!

We sometimes substitute the prawns for chicken but you need to allow longer for it to cook.

This sounds great. No fuss but tasty. Thank you

I actually have this book but got overwhelmed and didn’t try any of the recipes. I’ll give it a go now my newborn is a toddler and occasionally sleeps.

I've just been pulled out of a cooking rut by a website I randomly found called themodernproper.com. It's just got tons of really really delicious-sounding things, ranging from super simple weeknight dinners to more fancy stuff.

The other thing I've just discovered is an app called StashCook, which allows you to save recipes to it directly from any website, then organise them into folders within the app and change the number of people it serves, which automatically alters the ingredient quantities. It's fab!

Oh also, my family's absolute favourite currently is this Mexican-ish pulled beef recipe. We have it in burritos rather than tacos, and I sometimes use shoulder of pork instead (in which case cut the layer of fat off the pork before cooking). Long time in the oven, but ridiculously easy to make and so good!

Love the website - it reminds me of Punch of Yum which I use a lot.

I’ll have to download the app.

Thank you

No worries! I've made about 5 recipes from the website over the past two weeks. So far I'd particularly recommend the tortellini soup, the apricot pork chop tray bake and the baked chicken quesadillas (although watch the oven temp/timings if you make the quesadillas - mine would have burnt to a crisp if I hadn't checked them early!).

thanks for the recommendation for Stashcook - just got it and it looks great

lazylinguist · 24/03/2021 08:59

It's brilliant!

Slightly off-topic, but I use an app/website (it's both) called MyCookbook
www.mycookbook-online.net/

It has the ability to import a recipe from most sites on the web and store it for you. Note - the free version has some limitations, but it's not that expensive for the full version.

So I don't limit myself to one site for recipes - I've added anything that looks interesting from so many different sites now.

NB - Love the Curry Guy! His YT videos are great too.
