What do I do with them? Ordered the condensed milk to make millionaire shortbread. Bugger!

I think you can use them in the same way you make caramel for millionaire shortbread from condensed milk. You just add sugar and boil/simmer for ages. There are recipes for this I think on the nestle or carnation websites. I was looking recently as I bought some evaporated milk as part of our first lockdown emergency supplies but never used them, and they're now close to expiring.

You can use the evaporated milk on tinned fruit as a pudding, the standard 1970's Sunday tea dessert.

Dilute it (instructions will be on the tin) and use in any recipes wherever you would use milk, mix with jelly to make mousse, put in coffee.

Google Millionaires Shortbread + Evaporated milk and you'll get plenty of recipes.

Rice pudding?

Cheesecake www.juniormagazine.co.uk/lifestyle/recipe-valentines-raspberry-cheesecake/ or fudge

FawnDrench · 18/03/2021 18:44

Evaporated milk is apparently normal milk with 60% of the water removed, so it can be diluted and used as a milk substitute.

Lots of cheesecake recipes using evaporated milk on the internet.
Mousse
Ice cream
Smoothies
Fudge
Swedish meatballs
Chowder
Soup, sauces, dressings
Mac n cheese

Delicious on jelly!! Also makes a lovely, creamy rice pudding.

PoirotAndHisMoustache · 18/03/2021 18:53

Pumpkin Pie 😍😍😍

My mum makes jelly with it. Obviously you need boiling water to dissolve the jelly by replace the rest with evap. It's my favourite dessert Grin

Oh I love evaporated milk on crumble! It made into jelly, yes! It's also delicious added to custard.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/03/2021 20:26

My mum used to use it to make custard with Bird's custard powder. I'm not sure whether she diluted it a bit. It was lovely.

i did this once and googled as read I could change it. One can evaporated, 1 1/2 cups sugar and optional
Vanilla extract. It worked well
And made lovely flapjacks. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the evaporated milk with the sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
If desired, whisk in the vanilla extract.
Remove from the heat and let stand until cooled.

julie81 · 19/03/2021 08:38

Sorry should say change it into condensed milk.

NeedaLittleNap · 22/03/2021 10:58

That's a great tip @julie81

notacooldad · 22/03/2021 11:00

My sponge fIry cakes didn't work out the other day so I soaked them in evap.
I getvthat not everyone would like this but they were so good!!
I like evap and bananas or evap and tinned peaches.

Yes, milk jelly as pp has said is lovely. Reminds me of my great aunt and birthdays as a child. Smile
