Which "Ready Meals" do you recommend? (Food Police cover your eyes)

Like most of you, I'm sure, I cook most meals from scratch. We don't eat "fast" food and very very rarely have takeaways (can't afford em!) but ...

every now and then I want a night off from cooking.

I have been known to buy and enjoy

Waitrose or M & S chicken kievs (the whole breast ones)

Sainsbury's lamb kofta kleftiko

Fish fingers

Good quality vegetarian pizzas

Loyd Grossman pasta sauces

But I want to add to my repetoire for my nights off cooking.

What have you bought and shamelessly enjoyed and not felt guilty about?

these meals for DS and these for when I have friends over for dinner but don't want to cook!

Oblomov · 06/11/2007 18:11

God, I would never serve a bought meal to someone coming for dinner - but those Petits choux - they look nice - are they really nice then, overmydeadbody ?

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/11/2007 18:13

Sainsbury do a lovely one - Chicken breast with smoked garlic and Gruyere sauce. Allegedly.

OverMyDeadBody · 06/11/2007 18:17

Well, they taste just like good home-made food tbh, which they are, and they cook the family meals to your specifications so I got a goulash with only the veg I chose in it! Was more like calling up a personal cook than buying a ready-meal, but I only did it the once, couldn't afford it regularly!

The Naturals range in Sainsbos is nice.

we are currently obsessed with Sainsbury's individual steak and kidney puddings - so delicious on a cold day - served with dh's lovely mash and veg and a glass of cider

We like Bighams' Steak and Ale pies. They are the only ready meal I tend to buy now but they are just so good. I serve with some green veg and that's it! Very easy. We buy from Waitrose.

DaphneHarvey · 06/11/2007 18:37

Hmmmm, well I think I am a really good cook. Just don't want to do it 365 days of the year! But still care about what I'm eating so only want the posh ready meals. IYSWIM.

LOL Hunker. I am on both. It did make me giggle.

callmeovercautious · 06/11/2007 18:42

If you are going to use them buy the fresh not frozen and as high up the Premium lines you can afford e.g Finest from Tesco. I have worked in the industry so buy very few now (once you know what is in them!) but these are OK if you are in a rush.

norkmaiden · 06/11/2007 18:48
