Hi
Just bought a soup maker has anyone got one and any suggestions?
Thinking of doing leek and potato but will the potato cook in the short time ?

I don't have a soup maker. I make soups a lot and all I use is a large pan and a hand blender. I would think a soup maker would allow for cooking times of ingredients.

If you want a delicious leek and potato soup recipe I'd recommend Delia's. It takes about 20 minutes with the traditional stove top method. You can probably adapt it to your soup maker.

If you cut the potatoes quite small then yes they will

Ha, I'm lookng for a 'soup maker' online shopping just now. It's either boiling up ingrdients or an expensive gadget that boils up ingredients.

There is no such thing as a soup maker.

Mintjulia · 06/03/2021 03:17

I'm puzzled by 'soupmaker' too.

Surely that's just a saucepan and a stick blender?

A soupmaker is one you chuck stuff in and cooks and blends in like 20 mins
I bought a small one just to do a couple portions quick at lunch and less washing up.
Just wondered if anyone else had one and if they had any tips before I first used it.
If making large batch I do in slow cooker normally , got this for when I want a quick and easy soup and not 20 bowls of the stuff

How much do you have to prepare the veg yourself, OP? I find the time-consuming bit is chopping & peeling; does it save you any of that?

You'll need to cut the potatoes very small. Alternatively you could saute them with the leeks first - that's what I normally do.

I've done spinach and leek; cauliflower and leek, broccoli, cabbage and leek and celery and potato. On the non veg side I've done Sunday roast leftovers (just throw everything in) and mussel soup using pre-cooked mussels, fish stock, cream and shallots.

The veg still needs to be chopped and peeled but you can save time by doing this in batches and freezing it, or buying pre-chopped frozen veg.

Well yes you will need to chop but was thinking of using it more for using left over bits of veg as well and its only small does maybe 2 portions so not much to chop.
Sometimes i just want soup for lunch and don't want to make a huge batch.
I figured i could also but pre chopped as well at times .

I wanted to avoid saute first as only bought for quickness, and I couldn't afford the version that does the saute bit.
Guess only way to know is to give it a try, and see how it comes out.
Have had a look online and found a few recipes to try

using left over bits of veg as well

It's great for this.

There is no such thing as a soup maker.
Except there is and a quick google will find it

I had one - but it broke quickly and I didn’t bother to replace it. Yes you just throw everything in and it automatically zizzes it at the end. I think you really do need to fry the onion first to get a decent soup!

LApprentiSorcier · 06/03/2021 12:11

My soup maker is a non-saute one (Morphy Richards Compact). I sometimes saute for 5 mins in a frying pan - it's not essential though, it just adds flavour, especially if you throw some herbs in as well.

Thats the one I have as well
