MTS, the only spouted one I found that (a) didn't leak and (b) dd could actually get the drink from was the John Lennon Tiny Love one by Maws. Believe me, I tried the lot - and this one was fabulous.

MummyToSteven · 29/10/2004 14:23

oh dear i have been making some very snotty comments about the john lennon range and rampant commercialisation/use of star names

looks like i will be eating my words and dignity and hotfooting it down to boots

have to admit i am past caring about leaks - just ds being able to get the drink would do me for now

Honestly, we tried every single one on the market, and this was the only one she could use. I think Maws do a version of the same thing without the JL association, if you see what I mean, but I could never find it.

i tried the tommee tippee one out myself last night - could only get anything out with beaker pressed right up against my nose, and angled at 180 degrees - so how babies are meant to manage

It's ridiculous isn't it - I did try out most of the others myself (conjurs up a lovely picture, doesn't it!), and found them impossible. I know babies have very strong sucks (my boobs know, anyway) but some of these beakers are ridiculous. The day we emptied out our beakers cupboard we threw away 16 different beakers and all of them were useless.

More discussion on the subject here ...

Have you tried the Heinz one? I too tried every beaker on the market (or at elast it felt like it!) and this one was good for a first beaker. I think you can buy them in Tesco or Sainsburys.
IME I found the anyway up things really difficult for them to master at first but moved onto them when they discovered that they the other ones. DS2 went straight onto a basic Tommee Tippee with fold down spout. Welcome to the beaker minefield and good luck

WigWamBam · 29/10/2004 14:38

And here if it's of any use.

MummyToSteven · 29/10/2004 14:39

light dawning now - given that steven is rather lacking in the teeth department, no wonder he's struggling a bit with the tommee tippee easiflow cup.

why don't they ever tell you things like that on the blurb

and why call them easiflow when they aren't easy????

I didn't find that one any better with teeth, tbh

Debbiethemum · 29/10/2004 15:09

My dd (6.5 mnts) is using/playing with the Boots own brand one (part of the first food & drink set). It has no valve so she just tips it up and mouths it. Don't know how much she actually drinks but she does enjoy 'drinking' from it.

Chuffed · 29/10/2004 15:41

We've found the avent one OK. I put the spout onto the avent bottle as the spouts are the same size as the 'teats'.

LIZS · 29/10/2004 17:08

Try the Avent Magic without the valve in then when he gets the hang of using a cup you can put it back ! Are you just introducing a drink other than milk as sometimes that in itself can take a while to get used to.

Have you tried Tommee Tippee Kids on the Go beaker, they do them in Tesco and Waitrose. They're travel ones really, with a flip over spout and no handles. Like you I tried all the others but these have been the best and they have three holes in the spout and no valve so no problems with getting fluid out. I got the small ones and DS has had no problens holding them since about 7 mths.

pesme · 30/10/2004 08:40

we used the heinz one. and most other people I know ended up with one. it is a lovely size and the water just falls out so easy to drink from. also the spout bit is good to chew on.

WigWamBam · 30/10/2004 14:35

MTS - if you want to try the Maws JL one, I might have one of Abi's old ones in the back of a cupboard somewhere you could try?

Hulababy · 30/10/2004 21:26

We tried lots of different beakers when DD was little and got on with none of them. We instead got a Doidy cup, available from the Bickiepegs website. They are great. They don't have a lid, so you need to help at first but they are the only baby cup recommended by dental type people from what I remember. DD has never used a spout type beaker, just these and then normal cups.
