pregnant packed lunch

good evening first time mum to be in my first trimester, i really need ideas for packed lunch for work. any ideas that people have done in the past would be great currently having soups, rice cakes, fruit, wholegrain bars bagels.looking to change it up a little any advice would be great

Hi,

Just wonder why being pregnant makes a difference. Are you struggling to eliminate foods such as tuna/soft cheese etc. Or do you mean from a morning sickness perspective?

Think it would help to know what your concern is (if you can call it that).

In the early weeks it’s ok to eat whatever you can handle that doesn’t make you feel too ill. For me that wasn’t a lot! Later on I liked pasta salad, green smoothies, natural yoghurt with raspberries and peanut butter on rice cakes. Your body will most likely be wanting carbs, protein and iron as your pregnancy progresses.

You can pretty much carry on as normal with the exception of a few things noted on the NHS website, try not to make things too difficult for yourself! I survived on crackers in my first trimester - thanks DD!

The only thing I changed was to wash my salad leaves for my salad. I really begrudged it too!
Generally took egg &cheese mayo/tuna mayo/ feta and olives, all with salad. Occasionally some leftover roast meat at the start of the week! Yogurt.

Packed lunches weren't that different for me, it was the lack of rare steak, pate and wine that killed me.

Do read the NHS guides on food carefully as there's loads of things people tell you to avoid that you really don't need to; the NHS stuff is absolutely on the side of caution (bloody salad washing) so if it's not on there, it's ok!

Hello again , thanks for your quick responses everyone . As above there is foods I have read you. Have to avoid I.e deli meats . Runny eggs etc currently getting slight stomach discomfort is my only symptom . Being new to this I’m propbelry over reacting and don’t want any issues along the line if at all possible. I’m a real worrier ha

Are you in the UK? If so follow the NHS advice on things you shouldn't eat. Eggs are fine in any form as long as they're lion stamped. There are only a tiny amount of foods actually advised against so it's really just about trying to eat as healthily as you can whilst working around any morning sickness (healthy for me was a diet of crisps, crackers and fizzy drink in the first trimester Grin)

Runny eggs are fine

"Deli meats" what are they? Like ham and pastrami and that? If they're supermarket ones, they'll be fine.

not lax... just have safe food

British Eggs are safer than US, eg, we don't "wash" the eggs like they do in the US for example. which means they aren't as vulnerable to being contaminated... Chickens have to be vaccinated against salmonella in UK/EU etc.

what are women in the US advised to avoid? (apart from runny eggs and "deli meats")

we're advised to avoid:
soft blue cheese
brie/cammbert - unless cooked
liver/pate
game
swordfish
marlin
shark
raw shellfish
liquorice root

limit :
tuna to 2-3 times a week.
caffeine to 200mg a day
herbal tea to 4 cups a day

dont take vitamin a supplements

I’m sure previous to being pregnant you weren’t regularly packing tuna carpaccio or game pie in your lunch! Just crack on as basically normal.

but chickensin Australia aren't routinely vaccinated, so the risk is higher.
