Thaw prawns in warm running water?

Making prawns tonight and I'm a bit nervous as I've got food poisoning from frozen seafood before.

My husband washed the prawns in warm water before putting them in the pan, but I saw afterwards the water is supposed to be cold. Before he washed them the package was sitting on the counter for maybe 20 minutes.

I'm guessing it's ok, since they were cooked right after, so bacteria can't have had much time to grow? But I'd be delighted if someone could let me know what they think from experience Smile

It'll be fine, I've done it before.

This is the only one at I ever defrost prawns at home and I've not been sick yet so presume it's ok

The most important thing you can do is to eviscerate them, if that’s the right word. ie: remove the black line, which contains all the crap in their digestive system. If you do this you’re very unlikely to have food poisoning.

Lots are sold as ready to cook but they haven’t been processed thoroughly and still have it.
