My son has gone off baby food, so i'm trying to come up with ideas of meals for him.

Anyone got any ideas that aren't going to take forever to prepare?

sticks of cucumber and carrot, cherry tomatoes and lettuce are great with hummus too.

if you've got a food processor you can make your own sausages.

cheese pudding?

cut 4-6 slices of bread (crusts removed) into cubes and place in a casserle dish.

add layers of tomato and onion over the bread.

lightly beat 2 eggs and add seasoning and 250ml milk. pour over the bread.

sprinkle 100g gareted cheeze over the top. bake for 40-50 mins at 190 degrees until risen and golden.

or cheese souffle.

melt 25g butter and stir in 15g flour and cook for a few mins. gradually stir in 125ml milk and bring to boil, stirring continuously.

cool slightly and add 75g of a grated cheese, ham, mushrooms, tomataoe, onions mixture.

whisk egg whites of 3 eggs and fold into the mixture.

pour into a greased dish.

bake for 35-45 mins at 200 degrees.

pah u so bloody practical! i don't want the whole office to know i can't cook!

nappyaddict · 02/11/2007 14:57

thought of another favourite - egg baked potatoes

bake the potatoes in the oven until soft.

remove the potato from the skin and mash with milk and seasoning.

place some of the mixture back in the skin so they are half filled.

break an egg into each potato and put back in the oven until the eggs are set (usually about 10-15 mins)

put the remaining potato back on top and fork it. sprinkle with cheese and brown under the grill.

I have an 11 month old and she loves this EASY desert...

Melt a blob of butter in a frying pan
Once its melted, chop a ripe banana and fry in the butter for a couple of minutes.
Then pour in a little orange juice and continue to cook for a minute or two, until it's all nice and mushy.

I do this whilst she's sitting in her highchair so she can watch me whilst she has a drink and a cracker, then it's ready in just a few mins.

Hope this helps! x

curried eggs with rice is nice too and very simple. just hard boil some eggs and cut in half and pour curry sauce over them and serve with rice.

nappyaddict · 02/11/2007 15:07

if you want really easy though you can always opt for scrambled/boiled/poached egg on toast or cheese on toast!!

nappyaddict · 02/11/2007 15:30

i've got a really yummy recipe for tomato ketchup.

i wouldn't want to use worcs sauce with a baby cos the sugar and salt in it but i'm fussy.

  • 4 cups tomatoes
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 2 chopped red peppers
  • black pepper
  • 1.5 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons mixed spices
nappyaddict · 02/11/2007 15:39

never tried this but just came across it when looking for something else and it looks nice. if we had some chicken in i'd make it tonight but it will have to wait!

don't forget to try a few out and let us know how you get on

BroccoliSpears · 02/11/2007 20:06

I often do pasta. A couple of reeeeeeeely quick pasta sauces:

  1. soften an onion (or a leek, or a shallot or an apple - whatever you have in) in some butter. Add chopped fresh tomatoes (or tinned). Add anything else you want to use up. Cook for a few mins. Take off the heat. Stir in some cream (or cream cheese, or sour cream, or cottage cheese, or marscapone... you get the idea). Done in under 10 minutes.
  1. Put some olive oil, cream cheese and a teaspoon of tomato puree in a bowl. Stir. Add tuna if you like. Done in under 3 minutes.
  1. Keep some frozen spinach and frozen peas in the freezer. Cook. Add cream (or cream cheese, or sour cream, or cottage cheese, or marscapone etc) and nutmeg. Done in under 10 minutes.

Grate some cheese over the top before serving if you're feeling fancy.

Alibobster · 02/11/2007 21:43

While we're on this subject yust wondered, does everyone cook meals from scrath every night or do they cook in advance. I still make ds (16 months) food in a big batch which lasts about 3 weeks, do you think it's ok to still do this?

Alibobster · 02/11/2007 21:44

sorry, should be just and scrath, not yust and scrath

Alibobster · 02/11/2007 21:45

scratch!!! time for a cuppa and bed I think

nappyaddict · 02/11/2007 23:14

it is ok to do this but i always give ds what i have so its just cooked every night. if there's some left over i'll freeze it but otherwise i don't cook to freeze.
