Well, sniff it. The colour looks fine. Gone off chicken will have you on the floor, so if it smells ok then it’s fine.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 07/02/2021 15:48

Probably not. I’m flexible with food dates but not with chicken

SmidgenofaPigeon · 07/02/2021 15:48

Would be pretty criminal to waste all that really!

Oysterbabe · 07/02/2021 15:49

If it smelled normal I'd use it.

Aquamarine1029 · 07/02/2021 15:49

If it smells fine, cook it.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 07/02/2021 15:50

Meat from the butchers never had a date on. Use your senses. It looks ok, It’ll smell if it’s gone bad, it’ll probably be slimey too.

If it smells funny I'm sure she would be willing to send it to you.
SmidgenofaPigeon · 07/02/2021 15:55

Ha! Good @toolazytothinkofausername because I’d happily feed it to my foxes, then it wouldn’t go to waste.

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 07/02/2021 15:59

Thanks for the replies. I’ve never smelt a fresh chicken so I don’t know if it smells ok or not Grin
It’s certainly not got a nasty smell to it though so I’ll cook it and see.
The dog has entered the kitchen now that I’ve opened it and is lying as close as he can get, ever hopeful, so if his nose says it’s okay....

If it was pff, would Cooking it heighten a nasty smell or disguise it?

OP posts:
Happytodayhappytomorrow · 07/02/2021 16:01

If it was off...
Sorry, my typing today is pants

Honestly gone off chicken shells horrendous and it would feel slimy, you’d know!

saleboat · 07/02/2021 16:04

Am I the only person who can see how green it looks? Confused

SmidgenofaPigeon · 07/02/2021 16:05

It doesn’t look green Confused

averylongtimeago · 07/02/2021 16:05

Gone off chicken smells revolting- you absolutely would know.
It may also be slimly and have a faint greenish tinge.

If it smells ok, cook it.

saleboat · 07/02/2021 16:07

Bottom right hand corner it does?
SpiceRat · 07/02/2021 16:12

It doesn’t look green and you would have wanted to vomit if it had gone off with the smell.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 07/02/2021 16:12

I can’t see the green at all sorry- that chicken is fine if it smells fine!

Charley50 · 07/02/2021 16:17

DP would and he's a chef (not for customers though!).
Just cook the fuck out of it.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 07/02/2021 16:19

Yeah just cook it. I don’t mess about with chicken but you def know from the smell if it’s gone (it’s like a horrible greasy, eggy kind of smell 🤢) if it didn’t smell it’ll be fine!

DavidsSchitt · 07/02/2021 16:22

It's fine

ConeHat · 07/02/2021 16:27

You would smell it if it's off while you cook it at the start.

I dont normally risk chicken, but then I also freeze it and defrost on the day or before I cook it.

Daftasabroom · 07/02/2021 16:27

As others have said if it is off, even a little bit, it will have you retching.
