Tart vs quiche

Why does 'tart' sound so much more appetising than 'quiche'? I've just made a 'feta and red pepper tart' - I knew if I called it 'quiche' DH would be Envy. But no, he thinks it sounds very yummy! Grin

I think quiche sounds very appetising. I think your dh sounds daft. Grin

My DH is like this!

He doesn't like macaroni cheese (weird). But he does like cheesy pasta bake.

Obviously they are one and the same...

I think tart sounds much better then quiche tbh. Quiche reminds me of home ec classes in the eighties.

I think the likes of M&S and Tesco Finest are much more likely to call some thing a tart than a quiche.

It’s a bit like that with kids! I’m often vague and i’ve learnt the hard way never to serve anything called casserole. I make loads of casserole types dishes but always call them something vaguely related to it’s content, even if that is just a case of swapping the word casserole for sauce. Chicken in sauce, French beef (beef casserole), Spanish sausage surprise (sausage casserole), pork with apples (pork in cider casserole etc. Similarly I tend to stick to calling crumble just crumble. Because if I were to name a fruit other than apple it would probably be rejected.

😂 Is your DH my DH? He has a visceral loathing for anything called quiche, even if he was previously enjoying eating it. Fortunately he now understands that he is slightly ridiculous.

LegendDairy · 07/02/2021 22:55

But not all tarts have a eggs custard filling like a quiche.

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/02/2021 22:56

I love quiche. Rather a quiche than a tart any day.

mootymoo · 07/02/2021 22:58

All quiches are tarts but not all tarts are quiches!

boredwiththeoldname · 07/02/2021 23:02

Yes, but what about flans?

In a similar vein, my DS wouldn't eat stews or casseroles at all. However if I put the same stew/casserole in a bowl with a pastry lid and called it a pie he loved them!

Quiche is custard/egg based. Savoury.
