Breakfast ideas?

Hello. My 6 month old has tried baby rice and is now eating a third of a weetabix biscuit for breakfast with pureed or grated fruit. He doesn't seem particularly thrilled with the weetabix. Does anyone have any other baby-friendly suggestions for b/fast? Cold milk please-can't be bothered warming milk in the morning-selfish?!

I do make dd baby porrideg using warm milk. However, if I'm in a hurry I give her the jars of Baby Organix - she likes their banana porridge, and apple and banana breakfast. Fromage frais also go down well whatever the time of day.

Agree with Ionesmum - Baby Organix goes down very well, particularly the apple and pear one.

I never heat the milk in the morning - could be why DD never eats it!!

Mine both liked the powdered banana porridge from Baby Organix too. Ready Brek was popular too (tastes FOUL with no sugar but they never seemed to mind). There is no added salt/sugar in Ready Brek so it's fine.

I never heated milk at all!! In my opinion, if they could get used to having it cold, all the easier for me. Never seemed to be a problem. Actually, I did used to warm the milk for Ready Brek and porridge inthe winter as it seemed so much more comforting. About 1 minute in the microwave was sufficient, depending on how much milk I was using.

I guess at 6 months he's too little for toast but when he's old enough, I'd recommend always using wholemeal so he doesn't get used to the bland taste of white and refuse to eat anything else. It's better for them. My 2 have happily progressed onto multigrain bread now which a lot of their friends won't touch.

Have fun!

Warming up some oats in a bit of milk and water to make some appetising home made porridge is simple as can be. You can add mashed up fruit or a bit of honey to sweeten things up. A lot cheaper than the brands and baby doesn't complain because its nice and warm.

I used to add the Organix baby porridge to DS weetabix when he was little - he loved it!

Ghosty · 30/09/2002 10:32

I meant to say, the banana flavoured one ...

You shouldn't give honey to a 6 month old baby- there's a risk of botulism ( I think!)

GillW · 30/09/2002 11:04

I always wondered, given that, how they could do a commercial "Peaches and Honey" baby food (Hipp I think) labelled suitable for from 4 months.

I wouldn't worry too much if you have given them honey though - it says here that there has NEVER been a case of infant botulism in the UK linked to honey, and that studies of UK honey have found no evidence of the presence of any botulism spores.

Thanks all. I'll be carting the baby Organix porridge and fruit on the plane to Cape Town in a weeks'time (wish me luck). By the way I do heat the milk but I didn't want to be stirring the porridge for hours in the couldron over the coals!!!
I shall try Ready Brek and oats at home.
Ionesmum and everyone else, have you seen my previous email about sourcing full-fat sugar-free fromage frais??? I'd love to get some because although the babe loves Greek youghurt he does so only every other day!!! and doesn't like plain youghurt much.

Yes, I wondered a bit about the Hipp peaches and honey, (dd loves it!) but I imagine its cooked, so OK.

ionesmum · 30/09/2002 21:30

Inga, if you don't mind warming milk, dd loves the baby Organix Apple and Raspberry cereal, too - it smells like bubblegum! I find that if the milk isn't warm then it goes lumpy but perhaps that's just me!

Pour some boiling water on the weetbix or other cereal (enough to make it swell) and then add cold milk. Makes it warm and yummy.
