Baking / cookbooks for Teen

Any recommendations for baking books and cookbooks for my 15 yr old DD?

She likes to bake, but we could do with some new ideas. She does look for ideas on the internet but has had mixed success so I think a good book would be better. Also after spending all day on screens for school, it’s nice to look at a book for a change...

Also we are trying to develop her cooking skills as she isn’t very confident in the kitchen. We’ve tried to teach her but I think she prefers to follow recipes rather than make a meal up (which is what I tend to do).

My cookbooks are either aimed at younger children, or too complicated, or too old-fashioned/worthy. I’d like something for her with straightforward, fun recipes, that aren’t in US measurements!! I’ve been looking on Amazon but it never tells you what the measurements are, very annoying.

Any ideas? Thank you. Cake

No ideas on a book sorry but I'd try her with the Gousto recipes as they take you through things step by step. These burritos are fairly easy and both of my terms like cooking and eating them Smile

Not a book but King Arthur Flour website.... they have really good instructionals. Just be mindful that American eggs are different sizes - US large is UK medium and US butter has a higher fat content so reduce the liquid down by about 2%. Also temperatures are usually given for non fan assisted so reduce the deg C by about 10 deg.

You Tube is also amazing for teaching baking.

For learning I wouldn't use a book these days.

Just to say the measurements are metric so no cups or fl oz.

If she's struggling with conversion of measurements we have worktop protector with them all on. It's not this one, think I got ours from Sainsbury's ages so but it is really handy.

Has she got a set of "cup" measurements too?

Sam Stern’s student cookbook is good - easy to follow and he suggests ingredient swaps and substitutions which I found helpful when I was learning (I also like to follow recipes) 🙂

Lorraine Pascale's Fast, Fresh and Easy Food might fit the bill. Not so much about baking though.
Delia's Complete Cookery Course is one I go back to again and again as is Nigella's How to Eat. Perhaps not modern enough but both full of great ideas and not too complex.

I think the River Cottage book on cakes is brilliant, but it is mostly basic cakes, but the recipes do always work. The Hummingbird Bakery book is good too if you want some more unusual flavours

The Bero and Homepride books are great for basic baking recipes. They are Easy to follow with clear measurements and instructions.
