fromage frais

Hello there. Does anyone know of a supermarket or health food store that sells full-fat plain fromage frais? I have only been able to get hold of the sugar-laden fruit ones by Danone and Petit Filous. I have checked Sainsburys (2), Asda, Safeways and Tesco. The only plain fromage frais I've found is low fat.

I don't recall seeing it anywhere either. However, Fromage Frais is pretty low fat anyway (2.9% according to the sugar laden version my son's just eaten ) so I doubt the low fat variety will make much difference to the fat content of your son's diet. Provided he gets full fat everything else, I think the low fat version's fine. You could always stir some thick cream into it to increase the fat content if you prefer - some of the "extra creamy" F Frais have added cream.

Thanks Soupdragon-I didn't think of the fat issue!
I might just eventually give in and give him the sugary stuff-a little bit wouldn't be too bad?!

Would creme freche (sp?) be any better? I don't think it is sweetened and it isn't quite as sharp as plain yoghurt.

PamT, I too thought of creme fraiche, but that's more like lower-fat cream. Although it might be an idea to mix the 2?

I try to check the sugar content of the yoghurt/Frais etc that I buy but even the adult versions seem laden with sugar. If you can get your DS to eat the plain sugar free stuff mixed with fruit puree then go for it! He will, inevitabley, end up eating the sugared variety at some point though. I try to make sure mine don't have sugary drinks or sweets by way of compensation for the yoghurts!

I tried to make sure my 2 ate healthily until they were old enough to make their views known!

Waitrose do a no sugar version for children but I have not liooked at the fat content

Have you tried Greek yoghurt instead ? It's fairly high in fat, no added sugar - I used to give dd a few big spoons of it with either pureed fruit or Baby Organix fruit jars.

Yes, Twink, he does like Greek youghurt, but like I said earlier, he does so only every second day!?
Also, he had a slight reaction to Tesco's variety but seems OK with Sainsbury's one. His GP says it's OK to shop around like this.

I've just got back from our Tescos Extra and they have full fat plain Fromage Frais in bigish tubs.

Thanks SoupDragon, I shall check it out.
