We went to France for the day yesterday, DH was instructed to go and find one jar of Blackcurrant jam(not blackberry) and one of Cherry.

We now have one that says cassis and one that says myrtilles sauvages. Anyone got any idea of what he's bought. I've been on a French/English website but it didn't come up with anything.

Thanks, R.

Wild bilberries, or blueberries I think.

Cassis is definitely blackcurrant.

Myrtle (in English) is a completely different shrub - with aromatic blue-black berries - not sure what wild myrtle would be ? Maybe what they call "wimberries" in South Wales ? very yummy they are !

Well, dh (who teaches French, so technically should know) says 'wild bilberries'. Not that I'm promising that he knows what he's talking about or anything...

And yes, cassis is defn blackcurrant, like scatterbrain says

Cherry is 'cerise' if that helps for the next trip

He's on a roll now. I'm going to have to spend the next half-hour listening to what various fruit is in French. eek!

Yep, cherry is cerise - I did French A Level many years ago and the fruits are one of the few things I remember. Grapefruit is my favourite - "pamplemousse".

Scatterbrain, the wild blueberry/bilberry things are "whinberries" round here (Lancashire) - I think!
