Frozen strawberries

Hi there
My DD eats lots and lots of strawberries and at the minute it's tricky because I don't want to go to the shops all the time so I bought some frozen ones as the lady on the checkout at Waitrose told me they're just as good as fresh. I'm not sure how to defrost them though? I put some in the microwave today but then they're hot and mushy. Am I missing a trick??

Can you defrost them in the fridge?

@harknesswitch

Can you defrost them in the fridge?
I don't know! Does that work? I use frozen veg a lot but I've never been into frozen fruit, only for thing like smoothies

They will be squishy if they've been frozen first
Defrost in the fridge or on the worktop

They aren't great eaten raw, when defrosted. They are ok chopped into cereal, or cooked with other fruit. She may like them on top of weetabix?

Frozen soft fruit will always come out mushy.
I grow tons of strawberries and raspberries and freeze them to last all winter but you cannot eat them the same way. I defrost in microwave, drain off some of the liquid, add a little sugar and cook in a pan for five minutes, the sugar helps thicken the remaining liquid. I eat this every day with a dollop of Greek yoghurt.

Defrost them on the worktop. You see won't get the same firm texture as fresh but you'll get a better flavour at this time of year, as the fresh are out of season and imported, nothing like the taste you'd get with British in- season strawberries

They'll always be mushy if they've been frozen but they still taste like strawberries.

We tend to defrost in the microwave and have them hot on porridge or as a dessert with a little squirty cream.

Tinned ones in juice (if you can find them in juice) are ok too, same issue with texture though. You'll never get a fresh strawberry texture without fresh strawberries.

The freeze dried ones are delicious in cakes or mixed into yoghurt by the way. Flavourful and crunchy then melt in the mouth.

Ah that's what I thought to be honest, that I could use them in porridge or as stewed fruit, that kind of thing but the way the woman described it to me was as though they would defrost and be like raw strawberries! Nevermind!
