Batch Cooking Breakfast ideas please

2020hello · 08/01/2021 15:05

Hi

I'm looking to start cooking items to freeze and then reheat in the morning or something.

So far I only have omelette lol.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I just want to change it up for me and the kids from just having cereal or toast.

Egg and bacon wraps
Breakfast muffins
Omlettes

anotherwinkywinkybumbum · 08/01/2021 15:11

Have you looked at The Batch Lady on YouTube? She has some good ideas.

Rummikub · 08/01/2021 15:14

You can freeze omelette??
How do you then re heat it and does it taste the same?

Turquoisa80 · 08/01/2021 15:18

Bacon and cheese on puff pastry.. Like the ones in pret

Edgeoftheledge · 08/01/2021 15:27

Yes you can freeze omlettes, you can also buy frozen ones in Tesco. I don’t think there as nice.

Rummikub · 08/01/2021 15:30

No one else likes omelette on my house so I might try freezing half

Back when I was a bit more organised, I used to cook a pack of sausages when I bought them and make up scrambled eggs or an egg wrap and put in tortillas to keep sausage and egg wraps in the freezer to lift out the night before and reheat in the morning.

Ds also watches eat well for less and there was an egg traybake they did on there which we made together. The recipe doesn’t say it’s freezable but we kept it in the freezer and it was ok, it does say it keeps for a few days in the fridge so you could make it at the weekend to use for a few days and change whatever you add to it.

Apple or blueberry oat bakes. You can either keep in fridge, serve hot or cold or freeze them. Serve with Greek yoghurt.

I make batches of pancakes and freeze them; they defrost quickly and I just pop them in the oven for a few minutes to revive them

Muesli scones, oatmeal cookies.

2020hello · 08/01/2021 17:14

@Rummikub ill let you know tomorrow and do a test.

I added bacon and cheese. Even if I don't like them I'm hoping the kids will.

I'll check out the Batch lady thank you @anotherwinkywinkybumbum

The 2raps and muffin do you just make the actual wrap and freeze the whole thing or freeze separately?

WaffleHouse thanks for posting that link, I've been searching for that recipe for ages!

Almond waffles (www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jan/06/bee-wilson-almond-waffles-recipe-1980s-sitcoms-taste-of-home) and scotch pancakes. You can put them in the toaster straight from frozen.

Rummikub · 09/01/2021 00:37

@2020hello
Thank you very much!

I’m determined to make better use of this lockdown and make some changes and that includes getting organised with meals. But breakfast isn’t one I’d thought to prep so thanks for the inspiration.
Making soda bread next week- looks simple ...

I am a huge fan of batching and my freezer is packed to within an inch of its life but it takes 3 minutes to make an omelette from scratch. There is no point freezing omelettes.

Things that do freeze well are muffins (sweet or savoury, or eggier ones). A really good idea is to make shakshuka sauce, defrost it overnight, heat it then drop eggs in when it's hot to cook. Pancakes are also good frozen and then refried in a hot non-stick pan.

But my biggest breakfast tip is overnight oats. It's not freezable really, but I use frozen fruit, takes 3 mins to sort while I'm doing tea then into the fridge for the next morning. I also always have frozen berries in the freezer which can be added to natural yougurt which is a good no-brainer breakfast.

Any chance of a recipe, please?

I freeze croissants, filled with jam, or with cheese. Bung em in the oven from frozen.

Could you maybe cook up a pan full of sausages, and keep them in the fridge for a few days? They could be sliced into omelettes or warmed up for a sandwich.

Wafflehouse · 09/01/2021 09:50

2020hello I don’t know if the wrap question was to me but in case anyone else is interested, I cook the sausages, make an egg wrap, let it all cool and then assemble them and wrap them individually in foil and freeze them. I don’t add sauce because I don’t think it would freeze well, I might be wrong just haven’t tried it, if anyone wants any they just use it as a dip on the plate.

Freewheelingoryx you’re welcome, I never usually post anything of use Smile.

I also make up batches of pancakes if I have the time and freeze those, they don’t take long in the microwave or toaster with some fruit to go with them. I must get some of these ideas made up, I got a second freezer in the autumn and now Christmas is over it’s looking a bit sad.

The Ice Kitchen by Shivi Ramoutar is good, she has a breakfast section in there. But also a bit off topic, I’ve made loads of things I would never have thought of keeping frozen, loaded potato skins, bbq ribs, batches of cooked mince base to just throw in sauce for an easy dinner, it’s a massive time saver.

KuKu - its like a frittata or tortilla with eggs, lots of fresh herbs and other veg/berries as preferred. Good way of using up odds and ends of vegetables and like tortilla it does freeze and heat up reasonably well:

I wouldn't bother freezing regular omelettes, too quick to make.

Microwave porridge with frozen berries is also very quick.
