Anyone tried them all and if so which did you prefer and why?

Mainly want meat and the odd veggie meal
Big eaters so portions important

Probably use for two meals a week

And anyone have any discount codes?!

I've tried Gousto and Hello Fresh many times. I much prefer Gousto for recipe variety and recipe quality. I think the good quality was slightly better too. Gousto was quite a bit more expensive though.

It's worth trying them with an introductory deal and see which you prefer.

Overall you will pay more for the food you are getting, and bearing in mind you can find recipes online, but it is good for times when you don't have much time to think about what to make and also can be a good way to try new things. It's been a year or more since we used either HF or Gousto but we still cook some of the recipes.

I haven't tried mindful chef.

Dazedandconfused28 · 03/01/2021 20:08

We've done MC & HF - MC was much better & more inventive, but on the pricier end.

partyatthepalace · 05/01/2021 00:12

Mindful chef is great, generous portions, but expensive.

Marchitectmummy · 05/01/2021 07:34

We have used Gusto and Hello Fresh.

HF are simpler recipies and simpler ingredients than Gusto. Gusto portions are definitely smaller but depends how much you eat whether HF s too much or Gusto not enough.

My view is meat in both is problematic, poor quality and cheap cuts. There isn't an option on either to upgrade the meat for example which I would have preferred.

We used each for about a year in total. In the end the meat quality stopped us using either and we have gone back to recipies and sourcing ingredients.

RamblingFar · 05/01/2021 07:59

HelloFresh recently started offering meat upgrades for some dishes. Still prefer Gousto though.

We had Gousto for several years and all through the lockdown in March. I work from home and just liked the convenience of it and the choice. I ended up with over 50 recipe cards - probably more as we received a box weekly

However I then decided to pull out 4 recipes and shop for them myself. I built up a good store cupboard of ingredients and now, the 4 meals that I'd choose from Gousto at a weekly cost of £35, cost me approximately £15 a week. Of course a little more if I choose a prawn dish, a chicken dish etc but 2 meat dishes and 2 vegetarian meals I can do easily for £15 ish

Of course Gousto is super convenient and I just blindly ordered each week. We don't 'need' to save money as such but it's pure madness to pay £8.50 for a cheesy pepperoni bake. And that's what I was doing

So yep Gousto is great but if you're not time poor then honestly, just download the app and select meals from it to cook for the week

Would agree have tried them all Gousto by far best for choice and variety also easy to filter each weeks recipes by things like main meat, cooking time and healthy options. As PP said I have kept all the recipe cards which helpfully have all the weights and measures detailed (Hello Fresh only list ingredients) and I mix and match now some weeks if I know we are busy I order for convenience others if I have more time I just choose recipes from the folder and buy ingredients myself.

Portions are supposed to be correct size for adults and to be fair they do fill us up (clearly I was being much too generous before) but for teenage boys I suspect may be on the small side but most you could bulk up with extra veg, potatoes, rice etc.

Both Hello Fresh and Gousto are a set price based on number of meals although they do offer some premium meals each week which you can pay a little extra per portion for, have noticed there are more and more of these with Hello Fresh now (at the expense of the meals included in the set price Sad).

Mindful chef offer mainly healthy options but recipes can be a bit fussy for some and you pay per recipe (all different prices) so it gets very expensive very quickly!

If you (or anyone else) decides to try I have various vouchers and offers for Gousto and Hello Fresh which I am happy to pass on just PM me as the codes are one use.

I prefer Gousto to Hello Fresh, I think their recipes were better varied and the produce were better.
I do have discount codes for both if anyone does want. Here is 50% off for first box at Gousto otherwise.

Mindful Chef is the best if you want really healthy, luxurious feeling dinners, but it is more expensive. Portions are large. Not suitable for anxious/beige food eaters. I love it and it's what I have for myself.

Between the other two, I found Gousto better than HF -- better choice, less carby, and lots of "family food" that didn't make me depressed. Hello Fresh was the first one we ever ordered and it's fine but I wouldn't recommend it nowadays as there are so many better options.

Misty9 · 16/01/2021 17:08

I've used hello fresh years ago and found it quite basic and no different to what I'd cook normally. Use mindful chef now and love it. Yes it's pricey but the quality of the meat especially is really good, and the flavour combinations are often amazing. It's food I wouldn't cook normally so it's a real restaurant quality treat. Downsides, it can be quite labour intensive but only for the 30 to 40mins it takes! I've got codes if anyone wants them. And they offer 30% discount for NHS staff.

weaselish · 17/01/2021 09:41

Agree with the majority here - Gousto have been great especially working from home during lockdown; takes the "what on earth shall we have for lunch/dinner" decision away.
Also I like that you can pick 10 minute prep meals or more recently, ones that you can quickly bung in a casserole in the oven.
Here's a code for 50% off your first box and 30% off for the rest of the month if you're interested

I preferred HF! Gousto had lots of mistakes and I found, as an example here, they would send one garlic glove for a meal however, by the time I got to that meal, the garlic glove had dried up, particularly if it was a small clove. I found HF packers seemed to look at the whole box and send a bulb covering all meals. That’s a fairly basic issue though but it did bother me.

I did find with HF is a lot of what we would eat would be mince of some sort so quite repetitive. Lots of meals came at a premium price with HF. Although I preferred it to G, we did give up with it.

If anyone has a referral code for MC, I’d like to give that a go.

Mammyloveswine · 23/01/2021 11:36

Tried both HF and Gousto... prefer hello fresh for portion sizes but meals can be a bit Samey!

Probs order once a month as found was too much faff to cook every night!

Londonista123 · 23/01/2021 13:30

We’ve tried them all and it depends what you like really - more traditional (HF), adventurous (Gousto) or healthy (MC). I really rate Gousto for the Asian/Mediterranean recipes.

I have a code for 50% off at Gousto if anyone wants to try them out - cook.gousto.co.uk/raf/?promo_code=SHARO314764&utm_source=weblink

BookShop · 23/01/2021 13:32

We’ve been using Riverford meal boxes and they are fabulous. All organic, great size portions and a lovely range of recipes. They don’t have the choice of Gousto or HF but they have a more innovative range of seasonal ideas. I get the boxes for 2 and have been easily getting double portion S out of them. It’s also encouraged DD to do all the cooking and DS to widen his likes.

MommaZozo · 19/05/2021 01:49

My boyfriend and I are big foodies and have been using Gousto for 3 weeks now. I highly recommend! He’s 28 and plays rugby and has a manual job, so needs to eat a LOT and he’s never complained about the portion sizes... some have actually been a bit too big if anything!

60% off first and 30% off next 3 code for Gousto
