Making Flavoured vodka using sweets?

Whathappenedtothelego · 03/01/2021 15:19

We were given a bottle of Vodka for Christmas, and are unlikely to drink much of it.

I just saw on a different thread a suggestion to make flavoured vodka by putting After Eights to be dissolved.

So was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of other good sweets to use (not massively keen on mint idea), and also what weight of sweets I need for a litre of vodka?

ive done skittles vodka
buy a couple of big bags of skittles but take the green ones out (they make it a really funny colour)
remove some of the vodka and pour the sweets in, leave it for about a week and shake a few times a day

i found it was to sweet to drink straight so needed to mix with lemonade

Skittles. When we were younger I definitely drank a ridiculous amount of skittles vodka. No idea how many you need to vodka though.

I made it years ago with jelly babies, haribo type sweets which worked well.

My friend made some with worthers originals, delicious. I've made some with fresh strawberries was also delicious. Thinking about trying rhubarb and custard sweets.

Toffee vodka www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/toffee-vodka

I have done both toffee vodka (you use werthers originals, it’s delicious) and also Turkish delight vodka, it’s just castor sugar and rose water. It’s also delicious.

You can also do berry ones, just buy frozen red berries, sugar, and also a vanilla pod if you fancy.

Or you could make vodka jelly, that would probably be easier

Donkeeey · 03/01/2021 15:31

Bung a packet of Werthers (other toffees are available Wink ) in a kilner jar, pour in vodka, keep shaking and when they are dissolved, drink... Yum, yum yum! Grin

Pear drops is the best

Name changed because I might be the only person in the country to have made... chocolate lime vodka!

I wound up using two big bags and it was like syrup. It had to go through the dishwasher twice Xmas Grin

It’s actually not. Flavouring vodka is the easiest thing in the world. You just shove whatever you want to flavour it with in the bottle then leave it some place for a couple of weeks. Shaking occasionally. Job done.

Omg chocolate limes! That sounds amazing. I like the sound of rhubarb and custard too.

DH is very set on liquorice and black currant - we may need to divide the bottle in half and make two flavours.

Any kind of boiled sweets work well, pear drops, cola cubes, pineapple chunks etc

NastyBlouse · 03/01/2021 16:11

I tried it with Tangfastics once.

It worked insofar as the flavour imparted well.

But whatever they put in Haribo and who knows, maybe it's the same stuff they coat the space shuttles with to stop them burning up on re-entry it seemed to congeal at the bottom of the bottle and I could never get the gunge to mix properly. Quite the chemical achievement, considering that vodka is a dispersant.

Works much better with traditional boiled sweets. I did some with cough candy twists and that was lovely. Medicinal in all the right ways!

Raspberry vodka is amazing - I get requests!

Also part of your 5 a day!

What do you mean by running it through the dishwasher ???.

Buy a bottle of supermarket own brand vodka. Tip some out - into a glass, don't waste it - and then add the crushed sweeties of your choice into the bottle to bring it up to the original level. Screw the lid on tightly and wrap it in clingfilm. The clingfilm isn't absolutely necessary but does prevent any leakage.

Put the bottle into your dishwasher. The top basket is usually best. One cycle is normally enough to ensure that the sweeties melt into the vodka to give it the flavour you want. If there are still some undissolved sweeties put it through for a second time. When the vodka is clear give it a good shake when you take it out and let it cool down. Drink and enjoy!

I recommend pear drops, rhubarb and custards, pineapple chunks, werthers originals and apple drops. I know some people do chocolate based sweets but I haven't so can't advise on those.
