A friend was having a clear out and brought round an air fryer she 'made chips with once and never used again'. Why she thinks I'll make more use of it I don't know and I don't really have the space for white elephants! Before I give it back to her to pass on to someone else, if you love your air fryer, what do you use it for? What does cook better than other appliances ?
Thank you

Following as I've got one for Christmas... I'm hoping to make frozen chicken nuggets quite quickly and more tastily than in the oven, but that's not exactly exciting!

I've also heard about air fryer brownies that I will find the recipe for if interested

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/12/2020 16:31

Happy to try the brownie recipe, thank you.

Is it an actifry with a paddle that stirs or an air fryer with a drawer. I have an actifry that I do chips and wedges in but anything else falls apart. I have today bought an Tefal easy fry air fryer and waiting for it to arrive. I'm hoping that is will save me having to heat up the oven for jacket potatoes, chops, sausages, bacon, kievs, onion rings, frozen fish etc.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 29/12/2020 14:28

No it doesn't have a paddle, just a drawer. We made chips which were lovely

Great for chips! I use mine for things like garlic bread (quicker than heating the main oven just for that, to go with pasta or whatever), warming croissants or part baked rolls.

BertieBotts · 29/12/2020 14:36

Ooh jumping on as I've been meaning to ask what size air fryer people recommend for a family of 4.

BertieBotts · 29/12/2020 14:37

V good to know the difference between paddle/drawer as I had read that and thought they all had the paddle.

iklboo · 29/12/2020 15:04

Bandwagoning too - we have one & only use it for chips, which is a bit of a waste. We want to try new stuff in it next year.

I got one for Xmas too so also interested in ideas. Have found it good for bake at home rolls so far 😋 I put the filling in and bake for 5 mins. Also toasties, reheated some party food leftovers in there too which came out well. That's it so far

Imtoooldforallthis · 30/12/2020 07:20

Did a baked came Bert last night.

@Imtoooldforallthis so funny 🤣

I’ve heard tinned new potatoes sprayed with low cal oil are good

Imtoooldforallthis · 30/12/2020 07:33

Thanks, I'm never funny!!!!

MrsDrSpencerReid · 30/12/2020 07:36

Pork! The crackle is amazing! I’ll never do a pork in the oven again.

Pumpkin is another good one.

Also great for chips, wedges, nuggets, party pies, sausage rolls etc.

I’m in an air fryer group on Facebook, people are always posting really clever recipes Smile

Stepintochristmas2020 · 30/12/2020 07:38

Anything that's frozen can go in there and most things cook a lot quicker than in the oven eg nuggets cooked in half the time.

Part baked rolls are ready in a minute. Also great for melting cheese in toasties and paninis. Very handy to throw Yorkshire puddings into when making a big dinner as they are ready in a min.

I also cook fresh meat in there - chicken fillets, pork chops, sausages, bacon.

I was making pasta last week and threw my chopped mushrooms in there to cook them quickly.

Following now for recipes if anyone has any to share.

Imtoooldforallthis · 30/12/2020 07:50

Well only got mine last night. I use my oven a lot so hoping it will cut my electricity bill. I'm going to try everything I would cook in my oven in it, hoping it will make crispy baked potatoes.

I always do chicken wings or portions in mine, perfect crispy skin. I like to chuck a few sausages, potatos, peppers and onions in with various seasonings too, comes out really nice.

Rockbird · 30/12/2020 16:44

Mine is essentially a halloumi fries fryer Grin I've lived on them for the last fortnight!

Destinysdaughter · 30/12/2020 16:44

I love my air fryer! It does sausages perfectly, southern fried chicken, and reheats chip shop chips really well. I find it a really useful addition to the kitchen, but then I do love a good gadget!

If you want recipes, just Google them, there's loads out there. Also, get a sprayfry oil, as you will need it to coat foods like potatoes.

Imtoooldforallthis · 30/12/2020 17:40

Can I ask do you just put stuff straight in the basket or in dish?

Destinysdaughter · 30/12/2020 17:52

You have to.put food straight in the basket, to get the airflow, which cooks it.

Georgyporky · 30/12/2020 19:25

Another plea for the name of the FB group please.
I've accidentally joined an American one, not really suitable for a Brit who uses C not F, metric not imp, & accurate weights not cups !

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/01/2021 15:51

@Dumb1 for the chicken wings... can you pile them up or do they have to be in one layer? The pan isn't very big so not how much I'll use it if things have to be in one layer
