I am having a huge mental block. I create all sorts in the kitchen for my 10 mo by throwing various things (veggies, meat, pasta, rice etc etc etc) in to a basic sauce BUT I'm getting rather bored with the cheesy or tomato sauces - are there any others???

p.s. salt content must be zero or very small!

pesto?!?!?!?

RubyShivers · 22/10/2007 19:45

low salt stock for a casserole or on cous cous/rice with some meat/quorn/tofu

white sauce with tuna or chicken, parsley sauce with white fish, homemade stock for casseroles, soups or pies.

Lentils or beans or nuts such as cashew used whole or blended for protein punch!

Celery has a salty type taste, so can be used if you are cutting salt

Sacla has a good range of (slightly expensive) sauces. I love the chargrilled aubergine pesto, which has chargrilled aubergines (duh!), garlic, onion, olive oil, cashews, chilli, basil, tomato, and a small amount of vinegar. Very yummy!

I mix in some butter with pasta and then put in some veggies.

ah yes - casseroles - that's a great idea. I think pesto is soo salty and lentils is a good one too. She's at the stage where she can't yet use a spoon so it's whatever can be picked up in fistfuls!!!

I use mascarpone as a base too and i've made one risotto!

The sacla sauces sound great - i'll have to check the salt in it though!

Good idea - simple pasta + veggies - not something I've done yet which is a bit daft!!!

or you can use creme fraiche or philadelphia stirred into pasta with fish or veggies
