Are they already cooked?

If so, crumble up and top fruit or plain yoghurt with it.

If not, add more oats and margarine.

I was given a recipe for flapjacks with nuts and seeds in I added some raisins too for something different

stripeymama · 22/10/2007 20:13

I ue melted pear and apple spread (from health food shop) instead of golden syrup. Its not as sickly and has a taste instead of just being sweet.

southeastastra · 22/10/2007 20:13

yes perhaps i should have added more oats and raisin type things. they just tasted like pure sugar with an occasional oat.

Was this the day for flapjacks? I made some too and was remarking to someone how the fact they contain porridge oats doesn't negate just how unhealthy they are.

southeastastra · 22/10/2007 20:22

they're so unhealthy aren't they, all that sugar, butter and syrup. sickly

the syrup pushes the sweetness over the edge

Failing all of the below, you could always add a glass of soymilk and one of my Kids and watch them dissappear...

shrooms · 22/10/2007 23:17

Oh, and Christina, what do you mean porridge oats don't make it healthy?!
Anything can be rectified with porridge oats.

Check out this fab recipe for flapjack type things. I made them today and there is feck all fat in them but they are quite sweet. I'll be making them again though. they are delicious.

Goblin Bars
This recipe serves: 16

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
vegetable cooking spray
1 egg
1 egg white
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon flour

Cooking Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350° F. Spread the oats on a baking sheet and toast, stirring occasionally until oats are browned, about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.

  2. Reduce the oven to 325° F. Cover an 8 by 11-inch baking pan with foil and then spray with vegetable cooking spray.

  3. Whisk the egg, egg white, brown sugar, oil, cinnamon, salt and vanilla extract together in a large bowl. Stir in the oats, raisins, pecans and flour.

  4. Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake until golden brown about 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool. Slice into 16 bars and serve.

This recipe can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Serving Size: 1 bar

tHERE'S NO FAT BUT STILL A CUPFUL OF SUGAR - CAN'T BE GOOD! And I like the way it says it serves 16. Do they mean they make 16 flapjacks and serves 1? That's the way it goes with mine as DD and DS don't have a sweet tooth and DH has just had hundreds of £ dental work recently and not risking it.

I used the Delia online recipe, v simple.

LOL at porridge oats rectifying everything unhealthy. They should stuff some in cigarettes too.

Carmenere · 23/10/2007 11:07

Yes Christina but most flapjacks have both tons of fat and tons of sugar so that recipe is good as a compromise.

shrooms · 23/10/2007 11:09

Hahahahahahaha...

You know, I think we could be on to something here...
