DH bought me one that he uses, it;s fab. I think it's a Panasonic, anyway it's the one that everyone recommends and has high ratings on Amazon

My mother was given one as a present. Sat around gathering dust. Offloaded Kindly passed it to me. Sat around gathering dust. Then one day I had a little go at it. Then another. Now am absolutely hooked. We use it about 3-4 times a week for standard wholemeal bread for breakfast toast, then often at the weekend for pizza dough/naan bread/pitta breads etc etc.

Mine is a bog standard Kenwood but its great.

We came back from holiday late on Friday night. I put the breadmaker on before going to bed (takes me about 8mins start to finish) and we came down to home baked bread on Saturday morning - how cool is that?

just think it would be so much cheaper (in the long run) but also the bread must be nicer. Just dont have the time at the moment to make it from scratch otherwise I would give it a go.

Get a Panasonic with nut dispenser. It is the one that everyone recommends. Makes excellent bread and lasts for years.

IdrisTheDragon · 22/10/2007 12:44

We have a Panasonic 255 (I think). It has a nut dispenser anyway .

another vote for the Panasonic. Ours is four years old and going strong through frequent use. Breadmakers are one of those things worth investing a decent amount in, imho.

GreatHauntieWurly · 22/10/2007 12:57

how long does it actually take to make the bread one you have put all ingrediants in???

I've got the Panasonic, it's fab - it's my second one and I use it every day. However, this time around, I didn't bother with a nut dispenser - I hardly ever used it with the old one, and I don't think it's worth the extra money. You can just bung in the extra ingredients at the specific time if you're making one of the recipes that needs it.

Beenleigh · 22/10/2007 13:05

Oooh, must be that christmas feeling, I asked the same thing the other day here and the panasonic sounds fab, I'm going to be requesting contributions to this one.

TellusMater · 22/10/2007 13:05

I have a Panasonic and make pretty much all our bread in it. I do use the fruit/nut dispenser because a) I like to just bung everything and leave it - I would forget to go back and put in the other ingredients and b) you can put it on a timer and still have fruity bread.

Had a different one before - not sure what make. Not as good as the Panasonic and ended its life jumping off the worktop (it was very vigorous...)

fibernie · 22/10/2007 13:07

looks like an update to ours.... we usually make the bread overnight and set it on a timer so it's ready for breakfast time or cool enough to slice for lunches.

Watch out though, they are notorious for helping you to put on weight!

Lilymaid · 22/10/2007 13:17

GreatHauntieWurly - with a Panasonic it takes 4 hours for a white loaf (though you can do a faster version in under 2) and 5 hours for wholemeal. We make ours overnight - there is also a delay setting - and it is ready when we get up in the morning. You do need to be around to take bread out of pan or it tends to go rather soggy.

GreatHauntieWurly · 22/10/2007 17:26

ooooh making fruit bread, my kids love that. Think I will definatly have to invest in one.

No you don't if you are anything like me.

Mine is gathering dust in the corner of the kitchen!

We use ours loads! Makes gorgeous bread and pizza dough. Probably don't use ours to it full capabilities but try something new every so often.

My parents have a panasonic too and they passed in on to my sister as they got given a new one. Its been used at least 3 times aweek for 10 years and still going strong. We all get huge bags of flour and it saves a fortune!

EmsMum · 25/10/2007 13:59

I use mine lots. Partly because DH needs saltless bread. Usually stoneground wholemeal - if you like that, make sure you get some dough improver (ie gluten) from Lakeland. Makes great dough... homemade pittas.

DH is away this week so I treated myself to a loaf of white WITH SALT mmm such good toast.

Banana bread is fab. Have to slice it and freeze to avoid overdosing.

yumty yumty yum.

Mine takes 3 hours white, 3:40 wh'meal though theres a rapid program that cuts an hour off each. Russell Hobbs. Wouldn't particularly recommend, it doesn't do the initial mix very well I always have to scrape down sides and into corners after 10 mins else would get floury pockets. And the lid of the nut dispenser fell off.

marymoocow · 25/10/2007 14:04

our panasonic is going well after 8 years of constant use. We also make ours over night and get up to fresh bread in the morning. dc don't actually like shop bread much so have to use it.

fruitymum · 25/10/2007 14:12

We use our panasonic all the time - shop bought bread tastes like plastic now.
You can make dough then form into balls - into the over and hey presto - bread rolls.
