I'm going to make one this week. Ive bought a few bits and pieces but not sure of it can all go in, or how I'm gonna cook it. Ive got:
Fresh Cod
Fresh Prawms
Tinned red salmon
Packet White Sauce
Frozen Peas
Potatoes (for mash on top)

Any help would be gratefully received thanks

Jamie Oliver's is the business.
Hang on.

i'd add smoked haddock but not tinned salmon. all fish uncooked. my sauce is hot/warm when it goes over (am curious re contents of packet white sauce - what do you add?). then mash on top, melted butter or cheese on top. oven gas 5/6 half hour or so. as long as sauce warm when goes in fish will cook in this time. deeper dish than you think or all escapes over side. would add parsley to sauce if not putting cheese on top. i'd have peas with not in.

also nice sometimes to add mushrooms and or/marsala to sauce.

make sauce thicker than you want it to come out cos fish will make it liquidier.

thanks puppy, the only reason I was gonna add the salon is that I read it in a mag for morrisons (fish pie with only prawns and tinned salmon).
The prawns are cooked obviously so does it matter if they go in with uncooked fish?
Couldnt get fresh white sauce and cant be arsed to make so just add milk to packet

Prawns will be very tough if baked for 25 - 30 mins. Stir fry them for 3 mins and serve on top.

Gingerbear · 21/10/2007 16:40

Jamie's notes - serve with baked beans and lashings of tomato ketchup
It is proper comfort food, and easier than it sounds (no messing with white sauce - the double cream takes care of that!!)

Gingerbear · 21/10/2007 16:41

If no fresh spinach, add a couple of cubes of frozen to the creamy mixture.

mosschops30 · 21/10/2007 16:43

good idea with the prawns, dont want to waste them, they were bloody £3

Do it tomorrow - the fresher the fish the better with Fish pie.

mosschops30 · 21/10/2007 16:46

I was making it tomorrow anyway. So I leave out the salmon (can use in sarnies anyway), get some haddock and put the prawns on top yes?
(I am bloody useless at cooking new stuff)

OP posts:
Gingerbear · 21/10/2007 16:58

No, don't bother with haddock - just use the cod (add salmon too if you like)

Will serve 6

mosschops30 · 21/10/2007 16:59

what tinned salmon? will it be ok?

OP posts:
Gingerbear · 21/10/2007 17:03

hmm, dunno, have used fresh salmon before.
Depends how many mouths you have to feed!

mosschops30 · 21/10/2007 17:04

yes but have bought tinned because it was in the original recipe (which ive since thrown out). It should be ok?
