What's the difference between a standard camembert and baking camembert apart from the latter being nearly double the price?

Is it just a marketing con?

I want to know this too. Bump.

Not sure there's any difference really. There is something to do with pasteurisation possibly that affects melting, but cant remember exactly what, it has been discussed at length on here over the years, so you may find the info if you search.
I find President one of the best and Lidl the worst. I never buy 'baking' camembert, they all can be, just with varying degrees of success.

I have never even heard of baking Camembert and always just buy regular. I have a baking box (ceramic) so don't even need to buy one that comes with a box of it's own. I assume there's little difference. Although I have found baking times can vary a bit which might be different for different brands?

I'm tempted to buy one now just to see if it's any 'meltier' than standard.

Slightly off topic but why does it stick so much .. my fridge reeks of it when we open the fridge I can smell it in the living room

I keep mine in an airtight plastic box and I can't smell it when I open the fridge.

We bake president. It couldn't be more melty. On a side note the cheese "bakes" in little ceramic dishes are a delight and worth every penny.

I first had melted Camembert about 20 years ago before it was a thing and melting Camembert didn't exist. Suspect the melting one melts quicker but I wouldn't pay more for it

We've got a cheese fridge box with a carbon filter that's used just for the smelly cheeses - it works!
