Just looking for ideas for Christmas dinner starter, something quite light?

Nothing.

I'd rather save space for pudding.

And I've usually been stuffing hot shortbread straight out of the oven all morning.

Nowt, there's a mountain of food for mains then dessert!

Anoisagusaris · 01/12/2020 11:26

We don’t do starters as such. Have smoked salmon blinis and champagne when people arrive and then dinner a while later.

In the past we've done a soup/seafood starter but I think this time we'll do canapés while everyone's got a drink and doing presents, then straight onto the main.

We're switching it up a bit anyway, as we usually eat Christmas dinner at about 5, and I want to get it out of the way a lot earlier this year so I don't feel like I've spent the whole day cooking. So we're aiming for 1...

Nothing - we're all getting older here and too much food ruins the afternoon Grin

I stopped doing starters about 5 years ago I was heavily pregnant (and whilst DH could have ane would gave cooked, Christmas Dinner is my thing and don't like to share the making! 😂) so wanted to reduce time in the kitchen. Haven't missed it at all. I have got some frozen lobster tails that I plan to do over Christmas but not sure if I will do them as a starter or eat another day. They just go in the oven with butter patty's , no faffing needed.

No starters here either, we are far too greedy with the turkey and puddings / chocolates. We usually eat early afternoon around 1:30pm.

At a restaurant a few years ago I had a pear and walnut salad which was lovely. I think the canapés idea is good too - nice & relaxed feel to it.

Prawn cocktail- always

balzamico · 01/12/2020 12:56

Though I like the idea of blinis

SOboredofcleaning · 01/12/2020 19:10

Has to be prawn cocktail, it's just isn't Christmas without it!
