Lactose-free tips please?

Hello all, my DS (2.5) has just started a lactose-free diet due to bad eczema. I have replaced all cows milk products with either goats milk or soya milk, but I am struggling to come up with nice meals that don't include cheese or milk that we can all eat together other than basic dishes like fish & rice & veggies. Are there any good lactose-free recipe books or websites anyone knows of with meals that might appeal to toddlers & adults alike?

All tips very welcome as new to this game! xx

Hi, My DD has lactose-free diet.
Things like stir-fries, casseroles and curries work well. Haven't found a good book, but I bet someone here can recommend good website. I sometimes use a tiny bit of sheep's cheese on meals like spaghetti bolognaise. Although it feels hard at first, you'll find more and more things that are OK. You can also try putting in a bit of plain soya youghurt in stuff (bit sweet, but OK if you have to.)

There are lots of soya replacements,(which aren't too awful) and somewhere on mumsnet there was a link about dcs being able to eat parmesan, mature west country cheddar and something else. I tried it, and it was true. Sorry, though, can't find link.

Good luck. It really helped with my DD's excema, hope it does for you too.

I have a totally lactose free diet and I cook 'normal' meals for all of us with soya spread or vitalite instead of butter, soya milk (please get unsweetened for savoury) and I just skip cheese, you can also get soya yogurt and cream, we eat a lot of stews and 'bakes' mind you don't get caught out on flavourings on things there are types of gravy and sausages that I can't have, no Bernard Matthews (why would you want to?!) and various other 'safe' food. There's loads of info on dairy free on the web, but to be honest, we've just substutued and created our own stuff. It's not as bad as you think it will be and it's easier too! HTH.
