I have a tub in the fridge that goes out of date tommorrow, can I use it on sliced up potato instead of cream, any recipe suggestions greatfully received.

yes, you can use it instead of cream on potatoes. As a really quick supper I tend to mix it into pasta with some pesto, its lovely with chicken or tun mixed in as well.

Mash made with creme fraiche as well as milk and butter is delish.

I mix it into casseroles to make them cremier.

Mmmm ... pasta with creme fraiche and smoked salmon pieces (cook some onion and maybe a courgette and just stir the others in).

Or add to pesto for a creamier past sauce. Or indeed any other sauce.

pasta carbonara with craime freche, my favourite. so easy -make pasta, fry bacon/salami, tub of creme fraiche and grade a tonne of parmesan in and add tocooked pasta.
alas, living in a veggie household i don't get to sample that these days!!

My dh would not eat pasta with creme fraiche (he's weird) Valleygirl and Pidge that sounds really nice, think I will try that one next time I am alone. Thanks.

If it's reduced fat creme fraiche you may not be able to cook with it, but otherwise you can use it in any recipe which normally calls for cream or yogurt.

Thanks everone, in the end I used it in pasta for myself and potatos for my dh and we both had fish, yummy!!!!

apparently fromage frais breaks down with cooking but creme fraiche doesn't so it's a natural thickener in meals....good one I know...

add a couple of tbsp of oil to a pan and cubes of meat, chicken/lamb or pork until browned on both sides..REMOVE and add a chopped onion and pinches of coriander and cumin....cook until gooey....return the meat to the pan...then add either fresh greens/ a whole lettuce/ fresh or frozen spinach, a tin of tomatoes, season with freshly ground salt and pepper and cook until meat is cooked (15-20 mins) then get a tub of creme fraiche and tip into the pan and cook for a further few minutes until mixed well...serve with a baked potato and lashings of cold butter/ cous cous or on a bed of basmati rice...add salad leaves and grated cheese and a cold glass of wine or two.
