What is/are whiskey stones?

WhatKatyDidNxt · 09/11/2020 17:58

@IHaveBrilloHair stones you put in alcoholic drinks to keep them cold. Avoids the dilution / water thing you get with ice cubes melting

That's totally new to me, never heard of them.

Always amuses me that people CBA to Google something.
I assume these are not for Scotch whisky?

I keep a bottle of Jameson in the fridge; talking of which.....

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/11/2020 19:12

I could have googled, as could the OP.
It's called conversation, this new fangled thing...

I got them from Amazon for my dp. Just be careful because they are stainless steel they might break a glass if not put in carefully, but they come with a pouch to keep them together in the freezer and he says they keep cold for 2-3 drinks so you don’t need to keep rotating them. They are called the ‘original whisky stones’

Oh the irony Grin
Yes, they are for Scotch or indeed Irish whisky / whiskey.

🙄

OP, John Lewis do these. I know this as I saw them in there a couple of years ago and was like WTF are these?! I have no idea if they are any good as far as whisky stones go though Grin

@Thechase thanks for the tips. I am novice -it’s my partner who is into this type of thing!

You can get some nice gift sets with whisky stones and a glass or decanter. DH prefers ice to 'thin out' some whiskies but if it's one of his favourites he uses granite stones.

BlueChampagne · 12/11/2020 15:24

In our house anyone who wanted ice in whisky (or even whiskey) would be thrown out! They are quite good in a gin and tonic (we have the granite ones) but still not as good as ice.
