ok, first question:

what is on your meal planner for this week? I have ground to a halt with what to make.

second question

dinner for 4, no pork, 3 courses, for DHs birthday .. that won;t involve me standing in the kitchen for hours and won;t break the bank!

thanks xxxx

Meal planner, as far as it goes:
Tonight: roast chicken, roast pots, carrot, cabbage, broccoli
Monday: Spag Bol
Tues: chicken stir fry (using left over roast): chicken, noodles, onion, mushrooms, pepper, broccoli
Wed: Pork Stew (pork, leeks, tinned toms; carrots' swede; mashed pots)
Thurs: Quiche, baked pots, salad
Fri: Fish & veg with couscous and cheese sauce

Dinner party menu: look at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/4/404659
but if nothing floats your boat, come back - i love dinner party threads!

Lulumama · 14/10/2007 21:49

wow ! thanks for that

OK, so what are you thinking re dinner party? Have some tried and tested but need to know what you do/don't want. Also tons of family meals, again, need to know what's in and what's out!!!

gigglewitch · 14/10/2007 21:58

does the no pork bit include ham?

Lulumama · 14/10/2007 22:02

thanks giggle - no pork / pig based products at all !

lilo- quick, easy , nutritious, don;t mind time spent preparing stuff if it is a sling in the oven and ignore it job.. no pork, but apart from that , we are omnivores!!

dinner party - 3 courses, seasonal food, spicy is fine..

i love hearing about what everyone else eats, i seem to trot out the same 4 meals time and time again !

also Tipex how long and temp. oven for roasting chick breasts in creme fraiche and dijon??
like new chicken Ideas

gigglewitch · 14/10/2007 22:06

mushroom soup with garlic croutons easy peasy; i always end up doing a chicken thing in the oven, often with curry type flavour & serve this with rice. Did all this earlier this year fed 8 people to the point of stuffed-ness, and it cost me less than a tenner.

JoanWilder · 14/10/2007 22:06

our meal planner

sun - spaghetti
mon - salmon for me, roasted with lemon, and plaice for dh
tue - something with the pork escalopes
wed - possibly brisket, unsure how to cook that too...been in freezer for ages!
no further plans.....

Lulumama · 14/10/2007 22:07

ok, onion soup sounds like a first course ! thank you..

these are all lovely suggestions

Starters: These days tend to do a salad or homemade soup. When I had more time, would do things like twice baked cheese souffles or spinach and cod roulades. Salmon mousse, mushroom pate etc etc

Mains:
Lovely Jamie Oliver recipe for fish, prawns, avocado, basil. Cover with double cream, grate over cheese and bake.

Nigella's coq au vin - she reduces the wine first before cooking the chicken.

beef casserole (either with beer or red wine) topped with cobbler (scones) or garlic bread.

Desserts:
current favourite is MN's lemon drizzle cake with baked fruit salad and barbados cream.

Alternatively: Lemon meringue ice cream; rasberry cinammon torte; pavlova

I have friends who never cook for themselves so when they come to us ASK for a roast dinner and apple crumble. But guess your guests want more than that?!

xXxspookyxXx · 14/10/2007 22:11

mon chicken chasseur
tue striploin steaks with peppercorn sauce
wed roast chicken,ham,stuffing and veg
thu beef bourginion
fri roast pork with veg
sat TAKE AWAY
sun chicken goujons

yogimum · 14/10/2007 22:12

I've made a salmon en croute before, think it was a Rick Stein recipe, it was delicious and could be prepared in advance.

Lulumama · 14/10/2007 22:13

wow, all these are wonderful , thank you !

lilo- i was going to make a roast ,with all the trimmings, but when i make a roast, i end up boiling hot and in the kitchen for hours, timing the veg right, and the yokrshires, whipping up gravy!!!

the jamie olive fish thing sounds good.. does it have a name, so i can google the recipe?

hang on, will go downstairs and look. Seriously, you just put everything in a dish and cook it!!! (made it one night when we had visitors after work, they watched me make it and it took no time at all). Back in a jiffy....

lilospell · 14/10/2007 22:16

(but would also second salmon en croute, v. simple, but looks like you've spent hours making it)

Lulumama · 14/10/2007 22:17

bless you lilo!!

am jotting down all the other suggestions too, so next time i entertain, i donlt have to shame myself !
