Calling all 80s kids - searching for Sainsbury's small cookbook recipe

I lost my mum back in 2008 and she had a book called American Sampler which unfortunately seems to have disappeared with her - it was one of those small paperback cookbooks produced by Sainsbury's in the 80s.

There are a lot of great recipes in there - but the one I'm particularly desperate for is the brownies recipe. It's unusual in that it uses cocoa powder and no actual chocolate - but it's the brownie I always wish I was eating if I ever brave trying a different one.

If anyone finds a copy (in their parents' house?) and could share the recipe I'd be eternally grateful.

(And if so, also the Tollhouse Cookies recipe too please 🍪!)

Keeping everything crossed 🤞

This book? You can probably find it cheaper on ebay.

I don't have a copy so can't help with the recipes but there is a used copy on Amazon for £15.
There is a great recipe for brownies made with cocoa if you Google "Alice Medrich brownies".

Thanks - was hoping to avoid £15 for just 2 recipes but I've gone ahead and got a copy - needs must!

This recipe says it's "adapted from Tollhouse" - it's a great cocoa brownie recipe.
Apologies for the rubbish printout and sticky chocolate fingerprints. I've used it for years. If you can't read it let me know.

@SniffyMiffy thank you so much! This looks very similar from memory so will give it a whirl Smile
