What are your (preferably cheap) meals that everyone will eat

My children will actually eat most stuff but I can’t be the only one who gets
“Urgh lentils”
“I don’t like stew”
“It’s too spicy”
Or a variation thereof.

I’d really like a few more meals that nobody has any complaint about!

My 2 (18months & 5) love chilli, I make it really mild, loads of mixed beans and random veg; usually grated carrot and diced peppers, lentils but they cook down and disappear.
Dish theirs up then add a load of extra chillies for the grown ups. Serve it with potato wedges because they don't like rice.

Spaghetti and meatballs. Really basic homemade tomato, garlic and red pepper sauce sometimes there's an aubergine hiding in it too.

Fish pie, we all love that. Takes a while to make from scratch but you can cheat and buy the white fish in sauce from the freezer section, mash on top and Bob's your uncle.

Risotto and chicken noodle soup

Thanks Smile
Although my four year old did complain that the meatballs were spicy the other day (they weren’t-they were just meat and herbs)

Bacon/tomato pasta (or any pasta + meat combo tbh)
Roast dinners (chicken good and stretches to other meals)
Chilli with taco shells and various trimmings (youngest members can just eat trimmings! Yogurt, cheese, guac etc)
Baked potatoes with various toppings
Tray bakes - eg new pots, halloumi, chorizo, peas - can leave bits don't like
Homemade pizzas - various toppings
quesadillas - change fillings - ham/cheese/spicy/non spicy
Mild curry and rice (sometimes gets rejected)
Cottage pie

The key seems to be customisation! Beyond those family favourites that everyone will eat...

Chopped bacon, leek & mushrooms fried in a bit of oil. Boil pasta. Mix everything up with a couple of spoons of low fat creme fraiche and add a bit of grated cheese. Delicious.

Not a damned thing.
I despair.

Baked potatoes with cheese
Spaghetti with meatballs
Pasta with pesto
Fish like salmon and cod though perhaps not cheap
Homemade pizza

Egg fried rice - excellent for using up leftovers and easy to customise. I add a handful of cooked prawns to mine but leave them out of DS's as he's not keen.

Sadly it's all quite boring. Things that everyone will eat without complaint are:

Pizza
pasta and meatballs
fish (white or salmon) grilled with mash and veg
Roast chicken
Burgers
Mild curry (onion, chicken/prawns, korma paste, tin of coconut milk, veg)
Risotto (onion, tiny chopped mushrooms, pancetta)
Pasta with tinned mackerel and leeks or broccoli (so easy and surprisingly delicious)
Cheese and sweet corn pancakes (usually with tomatoes and cucumber)
Chicken thighs in Nando's marinade (the mild one)

It's so hard when they'd all ideally like beige freezer food every night. I crave flavour.

I’ve got 1 vegetarian, 1 who prefers fish and 1 doing Keto.
I hate fish
It’s a bloody nightmare

Piratetree · 13/10/2020 11:31

Thanks for all the replies and ideas.

Also pleased to see I'm not the only one struggling with meals they all enjoy! Carbonara used to be a hit but the youngest is allergic to egg. It’s easy enough to do him some without egg though. One pretty much survives on peas and broccoli, another hates both, three love fish, one hates it 🤷🏻‍♀️
