Hi, i cooked spaghetty bolognese tiday and i have some left overs. Did I do the right thing to cool the bolognese saice and freese in plastic containers? How would you use it when you need it say for cottage pie? Would you defrost it first/ Is it safe to freese the bolognese sauce? Thank you.

did the right thing by cooling tghen freezing. To reuse - allow to defrost ideally overnight in fridge. use within 24 hours and do not refreeze

Thank you, PandaG.

if the container is microwaveable you can just defrost/reheat from frozen. So long as it ends up piping hot. I usually do on full power for a couple of minutes, stir, do it again until its all hot. If I was making cottage pie I'd probably still do that and then bung freshly mashed potato on top before sticking in the oven.

I currently have 3 placcy boxes of the stuff cooling now ready for the freezer.

Thank you very much, EmsMum. I've never done the freezing of ready meal as i've been truly scared of doing it wrong.

If I microwavre it to defrost, I always then boil it in a pan, so I am completely convinced it is properly heated through.

I do the heating in a pan thing to defrost too, in practice, but know that defrost in fridge is recommended! didn't want to give anyone food poisoning!

it's probably best defrosted over night, isn't it? It's just sometimes we all can have last minute ideas and we need it straight from the freeza, then probably reheating in a frying pan will work. I just don't know how I can get it from the plastic container as it will be so frozen.

fedda freeze it in china dishes and put left over mash on it whenever you have any.
when you need it just put the whole frozen dish in oven for 30-45 mins and check centre is hot before serving.
Beef isn't one to worry about it's chicken you need to watch. (people eat steak blue/rare)

Thank you everybody for some much good advice. Could you kindly let me know if it's okay that I used my mince from frozen - I defrosted it over night and mixed it with fresh mince and cooked. Is it still safe to freeze the cooked dish? Thank you.

If the mince was raw when you froze it the first time, it will be fine to cook and then refreeze - I do that regularly. But you must only refreeze in a different state - so raw first, then defrost, make a meal with it, freeze, defrost and then heat only once, to piping hot

Hope that helps

Yes, it does, PandaG, thank you very much.
