Wrap fillings for school

Yorkshiremummyof1 · 08/10/2020 13:38

After 4 years of cheese sandwiches at school, DS9 has declared he doesn’t like them anymore (don’t blame him).

So since he started school in September he has been having bbq chicken wraps, sadly no lettuce as he kept picking it out.

But he’s also told me he wants variety and I’m totally stumped at what cold wrap fillings are easy to make and that a child would like. I’d like to batch cook fillings if possible. I have googled however got a lot of American recipes or ones served hot.

Any ideas?

ham, hummus, egg mayo, philadelphia, bacon and tomato, sliced turkey

Final year Nutrition student here- literally just busy making healthy lunch box ideas and have just done a chicken wrap one- shredded chicken breast, yoghurt/sour cream, pesto, edam, sweet corn and maybe try cutting lettuce into very small pieces so he doesn't realise it's in there, or just leave it out if he doesn't enjoy it at all Grin

I was considering shredding the lettuce and mixing it in...I just want him to have a little fibre! I think at the weekend we will need to test some small amounts of chicken with stuff. That sounds good, what you’re making! Chicken and pesto and Edam, I would probably try Greek yoghurt as my other half eats it so double use

My son loves just ham and cucumber wraps, pretty much has that most days or the cooked chicken slices with cucumber

SuseB · 08/10/2020 13:51

My three DC like tuna mayo and cucumber wraps. Also mixture of grated cheese and grated carrot. Ham, mayo and cucumber. Houmous and red pepper. Peanut butter and banana (unless nut free school). I also mix up the breads so it's not too repetitive - so alternate between bagels with cream cheese, or butter, edam slice and ham, pittas with same fillings as wraps, and wraps.

This week we’ve had
salami grated cheese, carrot and mayo (has to have something to stick the wrap closed)
Shredded chicken with mayo mixed with stuffing and lettuce
Ham and soft cheese with lettuce.

dementedpixie · 08/10/2020 14:01

Dd has it spread with philly and then ham on the top

AestheticWitch · 08/10/2020 14:07

Ham, pesto, Parmesan

Corneliusmurphy · 08/10/2020 14:10

May have to be careful with the pesto at school because of nut allergies.

We usually have hummus and cheese and ham or chicken tikka with salad.
Cream cheese would also work instead of the hummus.

At home for a hot lunch need have chicken goujons, salad and cheese, either ketchup, Mayo or bbq sauce.

Hummus, falafel, olives and grated carrot with yoghurt and mint,
Grated cheese and coleslaw,
Tuna, mayo and chopped peppers,
Mexican style pulled pork or chicken with mixed beans, cheese, sour cream, peppers and lettuce,
Coronation chicken,

Yorkshiremummyof1 · 08/10/2020 14:45

Ahhhh yes nut free school. I’m doing my online shop so taking all your suggestions!

Stupid question, do you toast the bagel?

Grated carrot and hummus

AestheticWitch · 08/10/2020 16:13

@Grumpbum123

Grated carrot and hummus
I managed to get away with this combo for ages then DD realised other people's homous didn't actually contain grated carrot and wouldn't eat it anymore!
DonLewis · 08/10/2020 16:16

My sons favourites are hummus, falafel, spinach, carrot and mango chutney.
He also like onion bhajis, mango chutney and raita. I make my own raita by adding mint sauce to yoghurt.

Other than that, we're stuck in a rut too!

Yorkshiremummyof1 · 08/10/2020 17:14

Sod it, I’m going to the co op after school and making some test wraps with him. I don’t think I can wait til the weekend

Always toast a bagel then let it cool before filling and wrapping otherwise it goes soggy. Love lots of these suggestions here!

AstiniMartini · 11/10/2020 07:57

loving these suggestions!

This week I made cream cheese mixed with gherkins and bacon.

I like mayo cheese and grapes also like a PP.

roasted chicken and waldorf salad (minus the walnuts for school)?

Dilbertian · 11/10/2020 17:41

Omelette wrap. One egg does 2 wraps. Pour half of a beaten egg into the hot buttered pan, and immediately slap a wrap into it. As soon as the egg comes away from the pan (test by lifting the edge of the wrap) flip it out onto a chopping board. Squirt ketchup on and then wroll up while still warm. Repeat with the other half of the egg. Let the wraps cool while you wash up and prep the rest of the lunchbox.

My dc love omelette wraps, whether cold in packups, or hot as a meal at home. You can add things with the ketchup, like grated cheese, cold meat, snipped chives, black pepper.

Yorkshiremummyof1 · 14/10/2020 08:16

I think we will try omelette wraps too! I made a list of all your suggestions and we are working our way down each weekend . So I take 4 suggestions that have similar ingredients, chop a wrap into quarters and he has 4 taster wraps for lunch on Sunday. Then he decides what he doesn’t like.

He’s not liked herby cream cheese with ham so we’re going to try plain cream cheese, and he spat the tuna Mayo out but enjoyed ham/salami and Edam. Just got to pick the next 4 to try on Sunday night when he gets back from his grandmas
