Are they nice to eat as an accompaniment or only really for stews etc? I bought some originally thinking potato salad but am yet to try them.

I like tinned potatoes. cheap, easy, versatile and quick.

Had them last night, tossed in maple syrup, gochujang and BBQ seasoning then pan fried. Served with leftover jjimdak.

They are a different kind of potato . If you have never had them before you won't recognise the taste or texture at first but they are really versatile. Yes they can be used in potato salad.
Patted dry, sliced and fried with onion until crispy then corned beef added they make a fantastic hash.
Great to bulk out a stew. As a pp said, marinade and grill or roast for a crispy coating. I've put them on the bbq on skewers before. Great for camping!

Getting on this thread, as I forgot to bookmark the previous one with excellent tinned potato suggestions.

My DFather used to pan fry them in a little butter with onion to warm them through and add a little caramelisation.

They are nice if you spray them with oil and chuck them in the oven

weathervane1 · 06/10/2020 15:39

My mum used to slice them and gently fry them. Very different to normal spuds but nice nonetheless

We have tinned potatoes roasted with chorizo, onion and garlic. Chuck on some chicken breast covered in M&S Spanish paste and cook til the chicken is done. Yummy!

I used to love tinned potatoes when I was a kid. Now I slice them up and throw them in frittatas all the time! My fave is salmon, broad bean and feta.

Ooh fabulous ideas. Thank you. I love making corn beef hash but hadn't thought of using them for that.

I can't stomach them. They taste vile, and I eat almost anything. (Apart from cockles and whelks!)

GreyishDays · 06/10/2020 15:50

I’m planning to use some in a curry.

Anordinarymum · 06/10/2020 15:51

Oh my. I love them and even the thought of them is making me hungry.

alangarneristerrifying · 06/10/2020 15:53

They're a bit nasty cold, or in salad, but they're nice enough in corned beef hash or bashed up to thicken a curry

MonaChopsis · 06/10/2020 15:54

I tried them with an open mind but couldn't cope with the weird taste & texture.

Roussette · 06/10/2020 15:57

They just taste of ummm 'tin'. All metallic tasting. Horrible.

Can't understand why, when it takes 15 minutes to cook new potatoes that are all ready scrubbed, why anyone would eat these very odd white globs of strange tasting stuff!

Georgyporky · 06/10/2020 17:20

They're good as a standby. They must be rinsed before use, & I prefer them sautéed with onions and/or spices.
