HELP - I have got 4 adults and 3 kids coming to join us on sunday for 'tea'. For the kids I am doing sausage rolls, crisps, pizza bits etc, (the usual) but what shall I do for the adults? I am getting french bread, pate, cheeses, quiches, but one of the husbands has high cholestrol, so can't eat any of these - what can I get that he can eat and so can we?

tea in our house is, er, evening meal

for sunday tea we have roast beef or whatever

sparkybabe · 11/10/2007 09:25

maybe sushi? good for cholesterol, but a bit expensive for 6 adults.

tortoiseSHELL · 11/10/2007 09:26

We always do crumpets on a Sunday evening.

oh LOL at you english and your sunday 'tea'

captainmummy · 11/10/2007 09:27

yes sunday tea in our house is normally a roast or casserole but I can't do one for 6 kid and 6 adults - not enough chairs for one thing. I was thinking of a buffet style thing, where we can all just stand about. sushi is a good idea. what else?

Baked Potatoes?

soup

All anyone really cares about is cream cakes. They won't notice anything else.

Hulababy · 11/10/2007 09:40

Can you not just add some good meats, some fish perhaps too, salad bowl, and some jacket potatoes if you want the "buffet" or help yourself type tea.

Carmenere · 11/10/2007 09:42

I would make lots and lots of home made pizza(low fat mozzarella) and serve it with a huge salad and that would do for everyone, adults and dc's alike

salad, pickles, olives, cheeses, wheaten bread, smoked salmon, coleslaws, pork pies, cocktail sausages, prawns, egg mayonnaise

Crudite like celery, cucumber, carrot, cauliflower, and lots of heart healthy dips such as houmous, guacamole, tzatziki, butter bean ect.

Wholegrain sandwiches or pittas

Make some banana cake with raisins and a small amount of oil plus lots of banana to replace the fat.

Cups of minestrone soup that you could buy in from a healthy range or make yourself.

captainmummy · 11/10/2007 12:31

All good except maybe the cream cakes, but banana cake sounds good and healthy. Jack Pots are nice and autumn-y too, I suppose thick sausages in rolls? Can high-chol eat sausages?

Delia Smith's lentil and bacon soup is always a winner and very easy to make (recipe on her website). You could just serve it with french bread and then have some cheese and crackers and tray bakes/cake or something to finish off.
