Really Cheap Dinners

spacemonkey · 19/10/2004 12:50

I'm skint at the moment and seem to have lost the will to live when it comes to dinners. Baked potatoes with cheese and beans always goes down well. Also like casseroles (have noted recipes on the casserole thread). Any other ideas for cheapo meals please?

lol Sue is a fab cook but she certainly isn't known for economy when it comes to food!

I guess not. But I reckon she does some fab things with lentils iirc

it's not fair, i seem to have totally missed out on the good-cook genes in my family, and sis is a brilliant seamstress and milliner as well! I will ask her for some food ideas though, how are you DG?

google for a lamb mince recipe called Bobotie, I love it but I make it in a pan and don't faf around with all the bread/egg stuff. It's a south african dish and it's lovely.

Fantastic Spacey, heard my baby's heart beat today, was overwhelmed. How are you? I bet you're a great cook. Couldn't your mum give you some tips? ASk her to make you lemon pasta. I had it about 4 times when I stayed there and have tried to make it a few times here but none are as nice as your mums.

A cheap fav in our house is rapid refried beans and chicken. Fry onion and green pepper together then add garlic, oregano, chilli (to taste), a little bit of sugar, tom puree and a tin of kidney (or any other kind) of beans. heat and then mash a bit. Grill or roast chicken pieces and eat with pitta bread or wraps and salad or anything else you fancy.
Also cauli cheese is brill and I slice spuds thinly and put a layer on the bottom of the dish then add the cauli and sauce. Then put another layer of spuds on top. Bung in the oven and got a complete meal and it tastes even better the next day.

Quesadillas is a favourite in our house. Put some grated cheese between 2 tortillas and you can add some chicken or ham or anything you feel like as long as it's not watery. Then cook in a pan on both sides in either a little bit of oil, or with cooking spray. Cut into wedges to serve.

Hello!

When do you get to have a scan? Seeing the baby is so amazing, even more so than the heartbeat.
