How much do they have to eat to count towards the five a day thing? I thought I'd read somewhere that a portion is what they could fit into the palm of their hand but my friend tells me I'm wrong (but didn't offer a more helpful measurement!)

thuoght it was palm of your hand size as that related to size of stomach??

According to the FSA, there aren't any specific guidelines on a portion size for a child, just that it should be proportionate.

For an adult, a portion is about 80g.

handful is right, hence less for children than adults.

I just give mine normal portions of fruit and veg, and smaller of the statchy stuff. Whatever they leave can be fridged anyway. They don't feel they have to finish it, but usually do as they both have enormous appetites

I think that fruit and veg should be as much as they like as they needs lots.
