Veg in a fruit smoothie (banana is nice and sweet. Pureed veg in bolognese sauce. Soup?

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 10/10/2007 13:02

Tomato sauce is a brilliant one. I use the same method for bolognaise, pizza sauce, risotto, casseroles,... anything which has a "wet" element can have pureed veg added to it.

Peel courgettes or you get telltale green flecks though.

BecauseImWereWolfit · 10/10/2007 13:03

Meat balls - whizz up mince in processor, and add any veg you like to that. Peppers work very well.

I buy frozen spinach, which comes in ice-cube sized lumps, and you can add these to any casserole/mince dish without it changing the taste/appearance very much.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 10/10/2007 13:05

apparently you can add spinach to chocolate cake...

MamaG · 10/10/2007 23:18

Thanks all

not sure about spinach choc cake though

courgette and carrott go well into any tomato sauce blended, then added to mince!!
Chuck fruit in as well, apples etc then they really don't notice anything odd
You could try that beetroot chocolate cake from eat yourself skinny?

Cook and liquidise broccoli and add to mash - makes green monster mash and with a small amount of grated cheese even my broccoli-phobic 3 year old will eat it

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:21

Grated carrot mixed with cream cheese and grated Red Leicester in a sandwich - IMPOSSIBLE to pick out!

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:23

Cooked carrots and sweetcorn pureed and mushed in with mashed potato - make into shapes, breadcrumb, and oven cook. Make the quite flat and you can freeze them and cook from frozen too.

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:24

Grated carrot added to noddles and left for a few minutes to soften with the heat.

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:24

Plastic dinosaurs on the plate to eat the broccoli trees and tell him how delicious it is.

MamaG · 10/10/2007 23:25

hmmm colditz I guess you've been through this! Thanks everyone

Soup, and bread dippy bits.
Pureed veg spead on toast and topped with grilled cheese

there are many many ways But make sure that puree is smooth as butter - one lump and child will twig on what it is and refuse to eat puree ever again "In case there is another pea, Mummy"

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:27

Yes, now he will eat broccoli and carrots without too much fuss.

hamabeads · 10/10/2007 23:28

parsnips and swede in with mashed potato

grated carrot in with mince

courgette and chocolate cake

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:29

The old favourite - carrot cake!

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:29

make the peas "Naughty peas" who have to be captured and crunched by teeth (didn't work on mine but might on yours)

colditz · 10/10/2007 23:30

(You have to give them squeaky little voices and make them run about on the plate)

shrooms · 11/10/2007 14:25

Pureed in to gravy. Then listen to them fart all night...

obabadabobba · 11/10/2007 14:35

this most annoying game workes EVERY time for my lot...

they say 'I'm not eating it'

you say 'ok, don't worry, just let me load up the fork and you just look after it for me, I will eat it in just a second...'

then you turn your back, walk out of the room, whistling, or talking to yourself about how you simply can't wait to eat that yummy forkful.

you walk back to non-vegetable-eating child, and hey presto, they have gobbled down the whole fork-full without even noticing what was on it!

then they want it again....and again...... and again.

dul, but it works here!

AitchTwoOh · 11/10/2007 14:39

finely grate carrot and cheese, add a pinch of cumin and toast in pitta pockets. the carrot disappears altogether. they're really nice too, and good for picnics.

shrooms · 11/10/2007 14:59

Make veggie burger with as much grated veg as you like (carrots, courgettes, onions, garlic, ect) and mashed up beans or chickpeas. Use a tbs or so of peanut butter to bind and some breadcrumbs. Add spices such as curry, cumin ect and salt and pepper.
Bake of shallow fry.

JennaJ · 16/10/2007 16:44

Grate courgette and carrot into mince when you make lasagna or sheps pie..mine NEVER notice.

Jenna
