So DH and I have decided we need to improve our eating habits since the birth of DD as we want her to eat healthier and a more varied diet than we do and feel that leading by example is the best way forward.

We have found a few new main recipes to try but are struggling with what the f**k to put with them!

PLEASE! any ideas or recipes would be greatly appreciated!

What are the main recipes OP?

Are you talking about veg?
And how old is DD?

FatGirlShrinking · 17/09/2020 19:47

Keep it simple is my approach.

What veg do you like?

My favourites are green beans, spring onions, baby corn, sweetcorn, mushrooms, broccoli and carrots.

Green beans drizzled with olive oil and a little salt and then roasted are lovely.

Corn on the cob can be wrapped in foil with a little butter and some chilli flakes or crushed garlic and cooked in the oven with your main. Alternatively just steam them in the microwave and then sprinkle with a little salt and pepper.

Big portobello mushrooms with a little oil and whatever seasoning you like or stuffed with cheese and breadcrumbs then cooked in the oven with your main.

Carrots roasted with orange juice or honey.

Homemade wedges, potato or sweet potato ones are great. No peeling just scrub, cut wedges drizzle with a mix of olive oil, garlic, parsley and salt. 200C oven for half an hour.
Steamed broccoli.
Peas, parboiled and a bit of butter
Grilled asparagus.
Slow roasted baby tomatoes with garlic and rosemary
Steamed carrots with and orange glaze (butter, brown sugar and orange juice and zest)
Sweet corn, on the cob, boiled with butter /oil and salt
Green beans, roasted with garlic and parmesan cheese

When my dd was around 9 months old she grabbed my mini corn on the cob and got stuck in, it’s still her favourite today and she’s now 9.

We don’t always subscribe to the “meat and 2 veg” thing that some people see as law.
We all love Hasselback potatoes which are simple but gorgeous and can look very impressive!

When dd was little we also used to make mashed potatoes and then something like a monster out of chicken and lots of different veggies as body parts. Sounds weird but she loved it.

Depending on what you’re eating, a side can range from a simple salad, vegetables, rice, potatoes, anything really.

One thing I do regret is not trying more foods with her when she was a baby and if I had my time again I would try so much more with her. The more colourful the better supposedly. Good luck Flowers

Thanks guys!

DD is only 12 weeks old but want to get us into a better eating habit before she starts weening onto solids and being more aware of what we're eating.
