Hi

my son is 9 months and i feed him home cooked at home, but when we go out i give him a jar. I would really like to stop using jars, but not sure how to take frozen food out and how to get it defrosted and how long i can carry it around frozen (chicken). Sorry this seems such a stupid question, but would just like to hear how everyone else copes.

We go out every other day before cabin fever sets in!!!!!

thanks
xxx

i usually defrost the meal overnight anyway in the fridge, and then keep it cool in a bottle cooler bag(with a tiny ice pack). then usually reheat it somewhere like debenhams cafe, which is very baby friendly and has a microwave in the baby area which you can use yourself.

I don't know if I'm a bad mother but...I used to put the ice cubes in a airtight container in the morning when we got up and then by lunchtime they were usually room temperatureish or needed a tiny bit of heating - and she'd eat them wherever we were. I'm racking my brain to think if I've broken any basic hygiene rule....

take half an avocado and a spoon, plus some bits of pitta bread to chew on. much easier, imo.

I mostly solved that by giving baby things like finger foods during outings.
HV told me not 2 worry about salt content if they (only) occasionally got mashed up bits of my restaurant meals, either.

I did the same as welshmum. I might have stuck to vegan food, mostly, lower risk of food poisoning. And everywhere I went would give a bowl of hot water. which worked fine.

And by 9 months, bits of food off your plate won't do any harm, as zebra says.

Avocado and a banana, I'd say. Also personally I'd just get a yogurt from anywhere nearby that sells yogurts (saved the day frequently in service stations!). Although yes, they've got sugar in them, I know.

I would do what MIF does - bananas, rice cakes, food off my plate, yoghurt.

Second aloha's post.

My ds ate sandwiches from about that age for the same reason, I couldn't be arsed bringing jars... Try cream cheese or peanut butter (if you dare!) and cut the crusts off. I used to bring sticks of cheddar too, sometimes cooked chicken. Fruit. Raisins. Rice cakes if not too chewy. The possibilities are endless!
