Any ideas! So far he has bread..toast..and that is about it! He is very good at lumpy food from spoon but want to encourage a bit more self feeding but not sure where to start.

I found out by chance that DD loves Pickled Onion flavour Monster Munch when it is crushed down to crumbs so she can put it in her mouth safely.

If you don't mind the mess try crushing some (one or 2) up in a bowl and letting your DS stick his fingers in and then lick them clean.

I did find that making sure that a drink was available was a good idea as well as they tend to dry the mouth out a bit.

Goodness, SH! Wasn't that the flavour they had to withdraw because it was considered dangerous...?

futurity, have you tried baby rice cakes? raisins? grapes cut in half? dd's still not good at lumpy food despite her grand old age of 11 months and 3 teeth but is an expert and these three.

Phillipat

I think these were the new version.

They don't taste as strong as they used too.

Futurity, DS is 10mths and has 3 teeth, but actually most of what he does is a kind of gumming, as he has no molars. He eats rice cakes, all kinds of bread and buns, crackers, pikelets (big hit these), pieces of nectarine, orange, mandarins, plums, kiwifruit (skinned and depithed), seedless grapes - even apple, which he manages surprisingly well! I've tried him on peas and sweetcorn, but he doesn't like the taste (has a very sweet tooth - see my thread below) so these have not been a success. I think even cucumber would be OK, although once again DS is not good with this (just makes a face like "what the hell is this?". I think it is not just teeth, it is the motion of the jaw and the dexterity to pick things up that counts. Hence I tend to give bigger pieces rather than smaller ones to make them easy to cram into his mouth. Have a chew yourself, and judge whether you need your molars much to chew something before you serve it up - some things are pretty tough (like steak) and would be unsuitable, but it is surprising what they can eat if they want to.

I really struggle to find lunch ideas for dd and was told to try finger food but dd only likes rice cakes. She treats things like grated cheese and cooked apple like sand or playdough! To ring the changes I top the rice cakes with fruit puree.

The nursery nurse at clinic suggested Skips for dd. Not with all those E-numbers!

i give my dd toast and chop a banana into about 6 pieces for her lunch (she's 11 months old and has no teeth at all!) my ds (3yrs now) used to like scrambled egg for lunch - i gave it to him so often i think he got fed up with it!

Halved grapes, cubes of melon, chopped up boiled potato, peas (no 1 fave in our 8 month old's world), and sweetcorn, little broccoli florets, breadsticks, and last night he ate chicken and mushroom pie off dh's plate.
Anythin chopped up and supervised seems to be fine.
