Anyone ever had a tin of this before?

Do I just treat it like raw fresh salmon when I open it?

you would treat it like a tin of tuna. its great mixed with mayo on a baguette or in a baked potato

Othersideofthechannel · 04/10/2007 08:51

Is tinned tuna raw? I always thought it was cooked.
(Only started eating fish recently after being veggie for 15 years hence the dumb questions!)

3sEnough · 04/10/2007 09:07

It's cooked!!!!!

HotLove · 04/10/2007 09:20

both tuna and salmon are cooked

Othersideofthechannel · 04/10/2007 09:58

It says it is raw on the tin.

I have used tinned salmon before in fishcakes.

it will say uncooked probably - you dont need to cook it anyway, its not like smoked salmon

Carmenere · 04/10/2007 11:56

I don't actually see how it could be raw. The tinning process would cook it afaik. Is that exactly what it says on the tin?

Othersideofthechannel · 04/10/2007 14:12

I think that's it Carmenere. I've spoken to a foodie friend and we've concluded that it was put in the tin raw and then cooked in the tin. Rather than cooked, then canned.

Hot Love, we will be having salmon with baked potatoes tomorrow night

The canning process, by defition, will cook the salmon/tuna. Can't see why it would be cooked first and then canned either - it's an unnecessary extra step! So don't know what the difference will be between what you've got and other canned salmon.

Othersideofthechannel · 04/10/2007 14:48

Thanks to this thread I don't think there is any difference. I guess I'll find out for sure when I open the tin.

I've just never seen this on can of salmon before so was a bit worried it might not be what I was expecting.

It was cooked and worked well with the jacket potatoes!

Hi otherside.
I heard tinned salmon is supposed to be doubly good for you because you end up eating loads of the bones that get soft enough to swallow during the canning process. Apparently, this gives you more calcium.

This is my wierd factoid for today.

Anyway, thanks for reminding me of this and I shall try it on a jacket potato, that sounds yummy.

Hope you are well and still HTTSKWLing.

Othersideofthechannel · 06/10/2007 05:37

That's good to know.

I am still HTTSKWLing and am now reading 'siblings without rivalry' by the same authors because DD has suddenly got more verbal and is now arguing back to her brother rather than bursting into tears of rage.

If you want to chat some more about it we could revive the chat thread or start a new one.
