Can you cook potatoes in a slow cooker? If so, what's the best way?

Is it a proper slow cooker or an electric slow/pressure cooker doobry?

My slow cooker cookbook says that you can wrap whole potatoes in foil and cook them on low for 6 - 10 hours. The foil is needed to concentrate the heat.
I've never done it. Why would you want to? In fact, I don't think my slow cooker has ever seen a potato, not even in a stew. It's a small one and they'd take up too much room.

Something like sliced potato cooked in chicken stock would work well.

In my experience the potatoes never cook properly in slow cooker, best boil them first before adding them to slow cooker

Yes, you can add them to stews and stuff, and also cook on their own as pp suggests as jackets in foil (though they don’t come out as crisp as in the oven).
