Can’t find them anywhere.

I see them in most shops but they are very expensive. £4 or £5 for a tiny one.

GiantKitten · 01/08/2020 18:38

By steaks do you mean the round ones with bone in the middle?
(You can find fillets easily enough)

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/08/2020 18:39

Are you thinking of fillets? I want the ones with the bones in but Waitrose’s were out.

I see them everywhere, though to get a good size one you need to go to the fish section for them to cut one fresh. Tesco, Sainsbury's, even my local tesco metro sells the smaller ones.

Raera · 01/08/2020 18:39

Do you mean the oval ones with the bone left in?
I've not seen them for years

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/08/2020 18:40

Yes, oval with a bone. They taste better.

Actually 2 other websites say they’re out of stock so there may be a supply problem.

Wait until the supermarket has a bargain price on for a whole salmon and get the fishmonger to portion it up into steaks for you. (I used to work in a fishmongers).

They freeze well and you'll always have some to hand.

But yes - now you mention it I haven't seen them either. Maybe customers prefer fillets? Scared of the bones ?

Fish market? The one in Birmingham definitely sells them, you may have an equivalent locally?

They stopped processing steaks because the fish are farm raised and don't get as large anymore you can still get them but they are not the same as a large wild caught North Atlantic Salmon. It was not a customer choice it was the processors choice naturally. They taste much better and take more skill to prepare properly. Removing the central bone and pin bones once cooked without turning it into a mess.
