do you have roast meat

or are we talking without the roast?

moondog · 29/09/2007 20:38

Put the pan you have roasted the meat in over a gas burner on the stove.Sprinkle in some flour and mix quickly as it 'fries' until nice and smooth.Gradually add some water, preferably water that you have cooked vegetables in until it is as thick/thin as you like. Some wine is good too and even a few drops of soya sauce for colour.

DO NOT USE GRAVY GRANULES OR STOCK CUBES.
If you are not having a roast, don't have gravy.

Twiglett · 29/09/2007 20:38

delia does a good explanation

without the roast you just have to use those foul powdered things like Bisto

Twiglett · 29/09/2007 20:39

moony is a purist

southeastastra · 29/09/2007 20:40

buy some bisto

MarsLady · 29/09/2007 20:41

ditto Moony.

I was never a fan of gravy till I had some homemade stuff and now make it myself every Sunday and love it.

It was a discovery much like bread sauce. Introduced all my family to bread sauce.

I'm having pork tomorrow. Thanks . Gravy is one of those misteries of English culture that only now I'm confident enough to investigate...

When we lived in Turkey I remember some awful expat talking about how he had bought his new Turkish mil some Bisto granules.

Dh and I were rolling with laughter at thoguht of Istanbul matron who cooked like a goddess being presented with a tube of brown sawdust by this arse.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2007 20:43

Bread sauce????

Put a little cider in your gravy instead of wine. Yum!

moondog · 29/09/2007 20:44

Where are you from Franca?

MarsLady · 29/09/2007 20:44

Oh yes...... found it in Delia's Christmas. Was sceptical but love Delia. Made it! Made more the next day!

Be careful not to let the pan under the roast go dry and scorch while you are roasting the meat, or your gravy will taste too burnt. You need a little tiny burnt bit round the edge to give it colour.
