My six year old has a problem with the enamel on his teeth and so I am looking please for sugar free or low sugar ideas for treats and desserts. Can anyone help please?

Dentist here. The no added sugar options suggested above are not suitable. No added sugar just means no added ‘free sugars’ but the natural sugars will still cause dental decay. The issue isn’t how much sugar but the frequency of sugar. A sugary treat immediately after a meal is infinitely more acceptable than a ‘low sugar’ or ‘no added sugar’ treat between meals.
If you are looking for sweet options between meals then whole fruit is your best option. As soon as the fruit is puréed, dried or generally messed about with it will cause dental decay.
Other suitable snacks are plain popcorn, cheese, veg sticks, nut butter sandwiches, nuts.

Thank you everyone. @Powerfulpam is it still a good idea to opt for a low sugar dessert straight after a meal or will that not help? We are trying to avoid snacks between meals but when needed go for savoury options like you suggest...usually cheese. Does using fruit in cooking like in baking make it worse for teeth?

Research suggests that sugar free sweet things just increase cravings for sweet foods, so I would try and encourage a taste for savoury stuff.

Yes once fruit is dried, baked, stewed, squished for smoothies the sugar is released from the fruit cells and is then available to cause dental caries. Fine for with/after a meal but not between meals.
If the desert is with a meal it matters less about the amount of sugar so wouldn’t worry too much about it being a low sugar option. It’s all about the frequency.
