Nigella chocolate cake recipes - which one is quickest and easiest?

DD1 has requested a chocolate cake for her next birthday (January - she started planning back in about Feb) so I'm going to trial a few (all in the name of research ) but it does need to be quick so as not to bog me down when I'm dealing with all the usual birthday party panic

IIRC, the one in the children's party section of "How to Eat" is easy and reliable. Her Chocolate Fudge Cake in "Nigella Bites" is slightly more faff, but not difficult if you have a mixer, however is probably far too good for a birthday party Do you have the recipes?

She has a few more in Feast but I've not tried them sorry. Expect someone will be along with experience of these.

Yes got the recipes thanks fruittea - will try the kids one, though I was slightly put off by what she said about it not rising - her description of a 'good enough' cake didn't quite inspire me!

for a kid?
just take an ounce of flour out of a nomral sponge cake adn replace with cocoa

they only eat the icing anyway

Jamie Oliver has a good one in the return of naked chef - "party cake" filled with rapsberries & cream and topped with chocolate icing. My DC like it filled with nutella though.

franch · 01/10/2007 19:57

Not true of my DDs cod - they adore choc cake and I don't normally ice it

dense choc cake is quite good in feast. I made it on friday and left it overnight, and it just sank and sank (so actually prob not that good for birthday sorry), but delicious. And really good if you turn the page and follow the same recipe for cupcakes.

The recipe in How to Eat that involves condensed milk (think it's in the general beginning section) is lovely and really easy.

Replace some/all of the dark chocolate with milk chocolate for children.

I have made the icing with white chocolate as well (a particular favourite with DS1) and that worked a treat (although it doesn't set as hard as dark chocolate)

Yummy and not too sweet!

franch · 06/10/2007 16:45

Many thanks - will try that and the kids one. The DDs have inherited my bitter chocolate addiction so I'll try them with dark initially.
