Advice on bread makers/machines

We've bought one. It has a recipe book with it but even basic bread calls for ingredients we didn't expect such as milk powder.

Can we deviate from those recipe's to ones we find online.

Also it calls for olive oil. Can other oils be used? Or other fats. What works best?

Do you have any good recipes?

I clicked out of interest, and I'm sorry to not be able to provide any advice, but I would go to YouTube. They have LOADS of bread machine videos and recipes. Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

I've never put milk powder in ours. I googled out of interest and can see it's a thing. We just use yeast, flour, sugar and water. I've also stopped using oil recently and it comes out absolutely fine. Good luck! I LOVE my bread machine.

You don't need milk powder. My bread is yeast, flour, white or mixed, butter, salt and water. Much less yeast than the recipe says. A previous machine had milk powder in the recipe but I stopped including it and never noticed any difference.

Yes, I don't add sugar either.

You can totally use any recipe. You can use oils or butter. Our usual recipe is:

350g wholemeal bread flour
150g white
1.5 tsp dried yeast
1tsp salt
1tsp sugar
1 tbsp oil (any)
320ml water. Or Apple juice. Or combo of water/milk or water/apple juice.

Chuck in any or all of sunflower/sesame/pumpkin/chia/poppy seeds. Or none.

Works on medium wholemeal setting of our Panasonic.

Also do more or less the same but 500g flour instead. Or 500g granary flour, although usually we do 400g granary /100g white. Or mess around a bit with those proportions. Or substitute some wholemeal for rye or spelt.

Just give it a go and you can experiment a bit after you’ve nailed one of the basic recipes!
