I think I gave birth to a fruit bat

I do, honestly. DD (17 months) is going through a picky stage and barely eats anything at the moment but when she does it fruit, fruit and more fruit. Yesterday she had grapes, kiwi, apple, orange, banana and a pear. And a few cornflakes for her breakfast. I offer her anything else she just says "No, No, No", points at the fruit bown and signs "more" really assertively.

So her diet at the moment is practically milk (she still has a lot) and fruit.

Should I be worried? I don't think so but you know when you have those moments....

Just be grateful it's not chocolate she's demanding

Charlee · 27/09/2007 13:47

I wouldn't be worried at least she not only eating something unhealthy!

PrettyCandles · 27/09/2007 13:47

How are her nappies?

EmsMum · 27/09/2007 13:47

So long as she doesnt hang around upside down by her thumbs and flap you're probably OK

Sunshinemummy · 27/09/2007 13:48

Mine isn't fussy (he's 18m) but will eat fruit until it's coming out of his ears. As per LRWG I'm grateful it's not anything unhealthy.

ds is a fruit fiend .. he's 6.5 .. i know what you mean about those moments .. when she gets older you'll find your arms get longer and longer as you daily carry truck-loads of fruit home .. and its bloody expensive too .. still .. there's worse things to worry about

GColdtimer · 27/09/2007 13:53

lol emsmum, I will watch out for that behavior! Luckily, grandparents grow their own in the summer so always lots of berries around.

Pinkcandles, they are fine. Amazingly so.

Mines the same (2.3) she even woke up at 4am this morning demanding a nana!! Grrr. However she does also like chocolate.

francagoestohollywood · 27/09/2007 14:00

well twofalls dd went through a similar stage when she was around 15 months. It started when on holiday in Italy, so her staple food were apricots. Apricots, grapes, bananas and milk. She started to widen her variety after 2 or 3 months. She still eats a vast amount of fruit, which is good, as she's not particularly keen on veg apart from tomatoes. They go through stages that's all. Yes, it can get a bit expensive!

Toothyboy · 27/09/2007 14:01

Another fruitbat here! DS2 is 19 months and is constantly pointing at the fruit bowl for bananas, apples etc and the fridge for strawberries and grapes. I wonder whether it's because the first food he ever ate at 6 months was a piece of the plum I was eating!!

Lawrene8 · 27/09/2007 14:04

Third fruitbat here!!! My DS will do anything for bananas and grapes and sometime sit's hard to get him to eat anythign else.

Twofalls - quick hijack - are you teaching DD to sign? I am teaching DS (trying to anyway) the same thing - how are you finding it?

NoBiggy · 27/09/2007 14:05

Same here. She had a tantrum last week because she had a satsuma and couldn't understand that she couldn't eat the skin too.

GColdtimer · 27/09/2007 14:08

nobiggy, we have the same thing with nanas!

lawrene, its going well and certainly cut down on tantrums through misunderstanding. I don't do loads just things like more, had enough, home, milk, thirsty, hungry, nappy change, sleep, tired, hot and hurt. Seems to cover most basic needs! It does help and its funny because those are the words she is beginning to say at the same time as signing them.

Lol... yes. I am also one who has, in the attempt to get them to eat absolutely every fruit and veg under the sun, has cultured their expensive tastes. No slightly hard avocado for me, mummy...

NoBiggy · 27/09/2007 14:11

Twofalls, mine is such a comedienne with bananas - turns it upside down and chews the skin, all the while looking at me and giggling like a fool.

Her latest thing is raisins, shoving them in by the fistful. It's not a pretty sight.

shrooms · 27/09/2007 14:12

And fetch me my mid afternoon mangetout. Carrot just won't do.

Katsma · 27/09/2007 23:00

My DD can't get enough fruit either. And raisins.

They go in one end as raisins, and come out the other end as grapes
